Self contained wound dressing with micropump

A composite wound dressing apparatus promotes healing of a wound via the use of a micropump system housed within or above a wound dressing member. The micropump system includes a miniature pump that applies a subatmospheric pressure to the wound to effectively draw wound fluid or exudate away from the wound bed without the need for a cumbersome external vacuum source. Hence, the wound dressing and micropump system is portable which allows the patient mobility that is unavailable when an external vacuum source is used. The patient does not need to be constrained for any period of time while exudate is being removed from the wound.

Combination SIS and vacuum bandage and method

A wound care bandage for treating a wound is provided. The bandage includes an SIS layer to be placed on the wound surface and a cover to be placed over the wound. The bandage further includes a structure to provide a vacuum space. A method for promoting wound healing is further provided. The method includes applying the above-mentioned wound care bandage to the wound and creating a vacuum in the vacuum space to draw blood controllably from the wound into the SIS layer.

Method for the production of structured cellulose patches or elements and devices made using such a method

A method for the self-assembled production of a topographically surface structured cellulose element. First, a mold is provided having on one side a first surface which is in a complementary manner topographically structured and which is permeable to oxygen. Next, a liquid growth medium containing cellulose producing bacteria is provided. Then, the mold is placed to form a interface such that the side of the mold with the first surface is in direct contact with the liquid growth medium, and an opposite side is facing air or a specifically provided oxygen containing gas surrounding. This allows bacteria to be produced and deposit cellulose on the first surface and developing on the interface a surface structured surface complementary thereto, until a cellulose layer with a thickness of the element of at least 0.3 mm is formed. Finally; the element is removed from the mold.

APPARATUS FOR ASPIRATING, IRRIGATING AND CLEANSING WOUNDS

An apparatus for cleansing wounds in which irrigant fluid from a reservoir connected to a conformable wound dressing and wound exudate from the dressing are recirculated by a device for moving fluid through a flow path which passes through the dressing and a means for fluid cleansing and back to the dressing. The cleansing means (which may be a single-phase, e.g. microfiltration, system or a two-phase, e.g. dialytic system) removes materials deleterious to wound healing, and the cleansed fluid, still containing materials that are beneficial in promoting wound healing, is returned to the wound bed. The dressing and a method of treatment using the apparatus.

Systems for providing fluid flow to tissues

Provided is an apparatus that includes a scaffold with a gel or liquid composition deposed on at least a portion of a luminal surface, the gel or liquid composition adapted to include microbubbles. Also provided is a system that includes a source of reduced pressure, the above scaffold, a manifold adjacent the scaffold, and a conduit for providing fluid communication between the manifold and the source of reduced pressure. Additionally provided is a method that includes implanting the above scaffold at the tissue site and disrupting a substantial portion of the microbubbles to induce fluid flow to the scaffold. Further provided is an apparatus that includes a scaffold that comprises a slowly degradable material and a quickly degradable material. Additionally provided is a system for coupling nerve tissue and a microchip assembly.

WOUND DRESSING
