A therapeutic cushioning boot includes a foot portion configured to receive a foot of a user, and a leg portion configured to receive a leg of the user. The leg portion includes at least a first support chamber and a second support chamber. A first fiberfill material is provided in the first support chamber at a first concentration, and a second fiberfill material provided in the second support chamber at a second concentration that is less than the first concentration.

A decubitus ulcers prevention garment for decreasing the skin pressure on a select body area of the population at risk for decubitus may be provided. The garment may be similar in shape to boxer briefs and composed of strategically mapped air cells for the patients' bilateral hips, proximal thighs and gluteal region wrapping posteriorly, targeting anatomic points including greater trochanteric, ischial tuberosities, posterior iliac spines, sacrum and coccyx. The air cell arrangement may allow for patterned inflation and deflation thereby off loading and loading particular areas. As air cells are cycled through inflation and deflation, skin pressure may be decreased thereby preventing focal pressure and local tissue ischemia resulting in necrosis.

A pressure-sensing compression bandage having a plurality of pressure sensors provided to indicate the pressures applied by and/or the pressure gradient created by, the applied bandage at various locations along its length when the bandage is applied to a limb or other extremity.

The present disclosure generally relates to smart bandages comprising a dressing and pressure sensor. The pressure sensor measures at least one pressure reading at a wound area while the dressing bandages the wound area. The pressure sensor includes a force sensitive film configured to generate a pressure signal based on pressure applied thereto and is operably coupled to the dressing such that pressure applied to the wound area is coupled to the force sensitive film via the dressing. A near field communication device of the pressure sensor is operably coupled to the force sensitive film for reporting the pressure signal. The smart bandage may include a user interface that is configured to display reported signals to a user for comparing the pressure at the wound area with a threshold pressure. The disclosure further provides a method of treating the wound area by applying the smart bandage to the wound area.

A medical dressing having a geometrical plane of symmetry. A border portion extends along the contour of the pad. A central portion of the dressing has a smaller width perpendicular to the plane of symmetry than the widths of the adjoining portions. The medical dressing comprises a gripping tab which is coplanar with the border portion and which projects outwardly from the border portion. The medical dressing may be used for pressure ulcer prevention, such as at a heel of a human body.

One aspect of the present disclosure relates to the use of vitrified active agents such as growth factors and/or one or more antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), or other desired active agent, for wound healing as a component of a wound dressing whereby the active agents are vitrified onto one or more polymeric materials, and their release rate regulated by the presence of one or more biodegradable polymeric materials.

A pressure relief apparatus is provided for a wound on a patient body. The pressure relief apparatus includes a pliable body including a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface. The first surface contacts with the patient body. Further, the pliable body defines an aperture that is sized to surround the wound. The pliable body is made of a washable foam material. The pressure relief apparatus further includes at least one fastening member attached to the pliable body, wherein the at least one fastening member detachably secures the pliable body to a portion of the patient body.

A medical dressing is provided. The dressing has a central portion and a border portion, and comprises a backing layer, an adhesive body contact layer and a pad arranged in the central portion between the backing layer and the adhesive body contact layer. The pad is symmetric about a longitudinal center line and the dressing comprises a lobed portion on each side of the center line. The present disclosure provides a device, which includes: a first layer provided with a waterproof, breathable pressure re-distribution medium and adapted for adhesion around an area of interest on a patient prognosed for occurrence of pressure ulcer; at least one second layer disposed under the first layer and provided with pores, adapted for reducing impact of friction and shear on the area of interest; at least one third layer disposed under the at least one second layer, and made of a hard material and adapted for providing support to the device; and at least one fourth layer disposed under the at least one third layer, provided with grooved features, which allow for redistribution of pressure applied on the device. The device, when placed on the area of interest, allows for redistribution of pressure, reduced shear and reduced friction on the area of interest, and may be used for prevention of pressure ulcers.
