Portable multi-function cable tester

The methods and apparatus described herein are designed and configured to allow one user to test cable continuity using a wire-configurable directional connector. The methods and apparatus may transmit a first and second voltage pulse through a first and second wire of a cable under test, respectively, having a wire-configurable directional connector attached. Both voltage pulses travel through the wire-configurable directional connector. The first voltage pulse selectively leaves at least one of the second wire and a third wire of the cable under test and the second voltage pulse selectively leaves the third wire. The methods and apparatus may store a pre-determined pattern of a returning voltage pulse specific to the cable under test, and determine a state of the first, second, and third wires in response to receiving the first and second voltage pulses.

Interconnection System with Flexible Pins

An embodiment includes a system comprising: a polymer substrate including a plurality of voids; and a plurality of metal pins; wherein a first pin, included within the plurality of metal pins, includes: (a)(i) first and second arms that couple to each other by way of an arcuate member, (a)(ii) a middle portion including a middle diameter, a proximal portion including a proximal diameter, and a distal portion including a distal diameter; wherein (b)(i) the middle portion is between the proximal and distal portions, (b)(ii) the middle diameter is less than the proximal and distal diameters, and (b)(iii) the proximal portion, but not the distal portion, is included within one of the plurality of voids. Other embodiments are described herein.

Ground Loop Reduction Apparatus

A voltage probe holster includes a support member disposed on a base. The support member defines a plurality of apertures sized to receive a plurality of single-ended probes having coaxial leads. Each of the apertures have a conductive periphery configured to conduct electricity from one of the coaxial leads such that a common ground loop through the support member and the base is formed and that differences in ground potential are reduced.

There is described an assembly for connecting a test unit to a wiring harness or equipment to be tested, and a method for testing using the assembly. The assembly may comprise a test box unit, a generic mate-in interface, and at least one specific mate-in interface. Each one of the generic and specific mate-in interfaces has an ID comprised in an ID support on the electrical path of the generic mate-in interface and the specific mate-in interface, for example, on any one of the end connectors of the interfaces or on their wiring. Information relating to the IDs of the mate-in interfaces and the contact configuration of each mate-in interface is stored in a database of the test unit for identifying the appropriate test contacts that should be used for testing.
