Devices used to absorb bodily fluids include, but are not limited to, diapers, incontinence devices, feminine hygiene products, or wound dressings, for example. Certain embodiments of these devices are produced from a top sheet, an absorbent core, and back sheet. Embodiments of the top sheet have a nonwoven polymeric sheet having both water insoluble and water soluble urease inhibiting compounds. The water insoluble and water soluble urease inhibiting compounds may be copper compounds. For example, the nonwoven polymeric top sheet have polymeric fibers and the polymeric fibers include a plurality of first particles of water insoluble copper compounds that release at least one of Cu+ ions and Cu++ ions upon contact with a body fluid embedded in the polymeric fibers and water soluble copper compounds on the surface of the polymeric fibers. The devices also include water insoluble urease inhibiting compounds within the absorbent core.

A hydro-degradable fluid absorbent product and its componentry, construction, and a method of manufacturing the same. The hydro-degradable fluid absorbent includes a top sheet formed of hydro-degradable layer, wherein the top sheet along with the edges is coated with hydrophobic coating that covers 0-80% of the said sheet and 100% of its edges, an absorbent core, optionally with super absorbent polymer, a bottom sheet including at least one water soluble film characterised by a tie layer which is coated on water-soluble film followed by moisture barrier coat. The method of manufacturing includes assembling a top sheet formed by a hydro-degradable layer, an absorbent core, optionally with super absorbent polymer, the bottom sheet including at least one water soluble film characterized by a tie layer, and bonding the top sheet, the bottom sheet with the absorbent core sandwiched in between by utilizing appropriate industrial bonding techniques.

Sanitary pads can be made flushable by means of perforation and stress concentrations in the layers to aid ripping before they a flushed into the sewer system, allowing absorbent materials to disperse instead expanding inside the pad and causing sewer blockage.
