TECHNIQUE FOR DETERMINING NEIGHBOURING RADIO RESOURCES BASED ON SIGNAL STRENGTH MEASUREMENTS

A technique for determining a list of neighbouring radio resources from signal strength measurements taken by mobile terminals is presented. Two or more signal strength measurements taken by the same mobile terminal at substantially the same time are grouped to a data set that associates, for each of two or more different radio resources of a given radio resource type, a measured signal strength with an identifier of the measured radio resource. An apparatus implementation of the technique presented herein is configured to analyze, using a similarity metric, similarity of a plurality of data sets. The apparatus is further configured to cluster the data sets, or information derived therefrom, based on data sets similarity so as to obtain multiple clusters representative of different radio locations and to determine, from each cluster, a radio resource set that defines a list of neighbouring radio resources for the radio location represented by that cluster. technique for determining neighbouring radio resources based on signal strength measurements

Supporting a positioning of a mobile device by the mobile device

A positioning support device holds available stored data which enables a determination of characteristics of radio signals transmitted by the positioning support device, wherein the characteristics of radio signals are expected to be observable at different locations. The positioning support device automatically and repeatedly transmits the stored data. Mobile devices may receive the data to estimate their position based on the data and based on measurements on radio signals received at their current location. The positioning support device may be caused by some other apparatus to store the data that is transmitted by the positioning support device. The data may be obtained based on characteristics of radio signals observed by at least one mobile device at each of a plurality of measurement locations.

System and method for position determination in a building

A system for determining a position of a user in a building includes a control device, a plurality of stationary radio signal transmission devices, a radio signal receiving device, and a signal processing device. The signal processing device determines primary channel impulse responses based on the radio signals received by the receiving device. The signal processing device also determines a secondary channel impulse response based on a secondary radio signal received by the receiving device from a mobile device of a user. The channel impulse responses are evaluated to determine degrees of similarity that indicate how similar a first primary channel impulse response and the secondary channel impulse response are to one another. For each degree of similarity, a distance of the mobile device from the transmission device corresponding to the degree of similarity is determined. A position of the mobile device is determined based on the distances.

Efficient data generation for beam pattern optimization

In some embodiments, a computing system maintains, in a memory, information on one or more terminal devices, a dictionary of beams and information on a spatial grid. The computing system maps each terminal device to the spatial grid based on up-to-date results of radio measurements and calculates, for each spatial element, a load caused by the one or more terminal devices based on the mapping. The computing system evaluates, for each combination of a beam and a terminal device, a reference signal received power, RSRP, based on results of the radio measurements. The computing system calculates a first map of expected spatial distribution of traffic based on the calculated loads and beam-specific second maps of expected RSRP based on the values of the RSRP. Finally, the computing system causes performing beamforming optimization based on the first map and second maps.
