SUPPORTING A POSITIONING OF A MOBILE DEVICE BY THE MOBILE DEVICE
A positioning support device holds available stored data which enables a determination of characteristics of radio signals transmitted by the positioning support device, wherein the characteristics of radio signals are expected to be observable at different locations. The positioning support device automatically and repeatedly transmits the stored data. Mobile devices may receive the data to estimate their position based on the data and based on measurements on radio signals received at their current location. The positioning support device may be caused by some other apparatus to store the data that is transmitted by the positioning support device. The data may be obtained based on characteristics of radio signals observed by at least one mobile device at each of a plurality of measurement locations.
ADAPTIVE POSITION DETERMINATION
A system and method for calculating a position in response to a position request. Observed beacon data associated with the request is used to select a calculation method based on available data for a venue and device capabilities. If sufficient venue data based on previously verified beacon positions is available, a position calculation can resolve floor and venue information. If insufficient previously observed data is available for a venue, the position is calculated using 2D data based on GPS observations. Following the choice a calculation model, the calculation position is returned in response to the position request.
COMPRESSING AND DECOMPRESSING DATA ABOUT RADIO SIGNALS
An apparatus obtains a set of radio data comprising signal strength related values for radio signals transmitted by a transmitter with an association of each signal strength related value with a representation of a geographical location (201). The apparatus applies a frequency transform to the obtained set of radio data to obtain transform coefficients, each transform coefficient comprising a transform index and an associated transform value (202). The apparatus selects a subset of transform indices having more significant transform values than the remaining transform indices (203) and compresses the transform indices by encoding each transform index exploiting a probability of occurrence of an index value of a respective transform index (204). The same or another apparatus decodes the compressed transform indices again for use in position operations.
Incomplete navigation data of indoor positioning systems
A method is disclosed comprising: determining, using a processor, whether a radio model of at least one radio node associated with a data set is incomplete based on a comparison between the coverage area of the radio model of the at least one radio node and a cumulative coverage area generated out of radio models of the at least one radio node associated with a plurality of data sets, wherein a data collection comprises the plurality of data sets and the data collection is indicative to at least one indoor radio map. Further disclosed are a corresponding apparatus, a corresponding system and a corresponding software program.
Method and apparatus for determining quality of radio maps
In accordance with an example embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus comprises a processor configured to determine a first result of estimating a position based at least in part on a first partial radio map, the processor further configured to perform a first comparison of the first result to a reference position, and a memory configured to store a second result based upon the comparison.
DYNAMIC FIXED WIRELESS OFFLOAD GATEWAY
The present technology relates to a method and system for providing fixed wireless access (FWA) services to user devices in a cellular network. The system is configured to receive signal data from the user device operating within the coverage area of the cell site and analyze the signal data to identify characteristics that indicate the user device is a FWA device. Upon determining that the user device is a FWA device, the controller switches the user device to a virtual anchor point associated with the cell site, enabling the device to connect to the network using FWA services. The virtual anchor point is associated with the cell site and may be established through a virtual gateway.
Positioning using locally unique neighbor cell identifiers
Various embodiments relate to the generation and/or use of a positioning map comprising instances of neighbor-cell information that each comprising, are associated with, and/or indexed by a respective globally unique identifier. In an example embodiment, a processor determines a locally unique identifier and an estimated location of an observed neighbor cell. The processor defines a globally unique identifier for the neighbor cell comprising the locally unique identifier and an indication of the estimated location of the neighbor cell. The processor generates a positioning map to include an instance of neighbor-cell information corresponding to the neighbor cell. The instance of neighbor-cell information comprises, is associated with, and/or is indexed by the defined globally unique identifier. The instance of neighbor-cell information may be accessed via an observed locally unique identifier when determining a position estimate for a computing entity that observed a neighbor cell corresponding to the observed locally unique identifier.

SYSTEMS, METHODS, AND APPARATUS TO DETERMINE PHYSICAL LOCATION AND ROUTING WITHIN A FIELD OF LOW POWER BEACONS
A non-time of flight or time of arrival position location system for accurate determination of a user's location in an enclosed, indoor, or covered environment can include a number of beacons mounted in an arrangement within the environment. Each of the beacons is mounted in a known location and transmits a broadcast signal containing a unique identifier that identifies the originating beacon. A handheld electronic device including a receiver and a communicably coupled processor can receive broadcast signals from at least some of the number of beacons, iteratively determine a vector quantity corresponding to each of the received signals, and sum the resultant vector quantities to determine an updated position. The iterative process can be repeated until consecutive iterations yield an updated position that falls within a defined threshold.
