The computer program code is further configured to cause the apparatus to receive a user input on the user interface directed to a portion of the display in which the nautical chart is presented, and modify presentation of the nautical chart such that the portion of the display presents the sonar image in response to receiving the user input.

A transducer assembly comprises a housing and a plurality of frequency steered transducer array elements. Each of the transducer array elements includes a plurality of piezoelectric elements. The frequency steered transducer array elements are configured to receive a transmit electronic signal including a plurality of frequency components and to transmit an array of sonar beams into a body of water. Each sonar beam is transmitted in an angular direction that varies according to one of the frequency components of the transmit electronic signal. The frequency steered transducer array elements are positioned within the housing in a fan-shaped configuration where an end section of at least two of the frequency steered transducer array elements are within an intersection range of each other.

Sonar devices for detecting underwater objects are provided whereby a set of angled ultrasound transducers are employed to sense ultrasound signals from a plurality of different spatial regions. The angled ultrasound transducers may include a first pair of side-viewing ultrasound transducers and a second pair of ultrasound transducers configured for interrogating forward and reverse directions. The ultrasound signals from the set of angled ultrasound transducers may be processed to identify the presence of underwater objects in each spatial region, and the resulting identified underwater objects may be displayed, on a per-region basis, on a user interface. The ultrasound signals may additionally or alternatively be processed to generate a topographical model of the bed surface, and to generate a topographical surface image based on the three-dimensional topographical model. The topographical surface image may be displayed as a fly-over animation.

The logic device is configured to render a historical view selector on a display of the user interface, where the historical view selector is configured to provide for selection of a particular view time in a period of time corresponding to the first and/or second sonar image data, receive user input identifying a selected view time within the range of time, and render first and second portions of the first and second image data corresponding to the selected view time on the display of the user interface.

A side-scan sonar adjustment system includes a user interface with a touch screen display and a logic device configured to communicate with the user interface and a side-scan sonar system. The user interface is configured to receive and/or display side-scan sonar data provided by the side-scan sonar system. The logic, device is configured to determine a horizontal swipe gesture rate component performed on the touch screen display, stretch the displayed image in accordance with the swipe gesture, and snap to a new field of view in accordance with current field of view and swipe length information. The user interface and logic device may be integrated together to form a multifunction display used to power and/or supply side-scan sonar transmission signals to the side-scan sonar system.
