METHOD FOR IMPROVING PERFORMANCE OF A SODAR SYSTEM
This invention relates to a method of reducing error in a SODAR system adapted to locate discontinuities in the atmosphere over a range extending away from an acoustic transmitter and receiver, the method comprising the steps of: measuring wind to determine either a substantially upwind direction or a substantially downwind direction relative to the transmitter; transmitting one or more forward or reverse acoustic chirps in the substantially upwind or downwind direction; receiving one or more acoustic echoes of the transmitted chirps; and processing the acoustic echoes to provide an indication of the discontinuities in the atmosphere over the range, thereby providing a wind shear profile.
METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR ULTRASOUND TIME-OF-FLIGHT MEASUREMENT
A transducer system with transducer and circuitry for applying a pulse train at a single frequency to excite the transducer. The transducer is operable to receive an echo waveform in response to the pulse train. The system also comprises circuitry for determining a time of flight as between a first reference time associated with the pulse train and a second reference time associated with the echo waveform.

The disclosed wrist-tracking apparatus includes (1) a wristband dimensioned to be donned on a wrist of a user of an artificial reality system and (2) a set of Time of Flight (ToF) sensors coupled to the wristband, wherein each of the ToF sensors comprises (A) an emitter that emits a modulated pulse of energy, (B) a receiver that facilitates detecting a reflection of the modulated pulse of energy, and (C) a processing circuit communicatively coupled to the emitter and the receiver, wherein the processing circuit calculates a time of flight for the modulated pulse of energy based at least in part on the modulated pulse of energy and the reflection. A processor of a sonar system extracts a signal in a predetermined time range from a signal received by an acoustic array, calculates a correlation value for a signal waveform extracted, detects a peak value of the correlation value, calculates an integrated value by performing time-integration of a square of the correlation value, obtains a target velocity based on the peak value and the integrated value, and displays the target velocity on a display apparatus.

In an object detection device, a signal generation unit generates a drive signal, a transmission unit transmits an ultrasonic wave as a search wave in response to the input drive signal, and a reception unit receives an ultrasonic wave to generate a received signal. A judging unit performs object detection determination based on the received signal. The drive signal has at least two frequencies, and the judging unit extracts at least two amplitudes corresponding to the at least two frequencies from the received signal, and performs determination based on a relationship between the at least two amplitudes.

TIME-VARYING TEMPLATE FOR IMPROVED SHORT-DISTANCE PERFORMANCE IN CODED ULTRASONIC RANGING
Ultrasonic ranging systems and methods that emit coded bursts and correlate transduced acoustical echoes of the bursts with a receive template characterizing a burst code to determine time-of-flight information use receive templates of time-variable length to improve short-range object detection. The template length is based on a time index measured from the start of the burst emission. The detection can account for a dead zone of transducer ringing following a burst. A time-variable gain that is also based on the time index can be applied to the correlated signal. The length and gain can be adjusted with reduced temporal frequency to reduce computation cost.
