The method may comprise disposing a surface sensor array on a surface, disposing a subsurface sensor array into a wellbore, activating a seismic source, wherein the seismic source is configured to create a seismic wave, recording a reflected seismic wave with the surface sensor array and the subsurface sensor array, and creating a seismic refraction data and a seismic tomography data from the reflected seismic wave.
SEISMIC SURVEYS USING TWO-WAY VIRTUAL SOURCE REDATUMING
In an example implementation, first seismic energy is generated using first seismic sources positioned on an earth's surface. First data including measurements of the first seismic energy is obtained from first geophones positioned at a first depth below the earth's surface. Second data including measurements of the first seismic energy is obtained from second geophones positioned on the earth's surface. Second seismic energy is generated using second seismic sources positioned on an earth's surface and proximal to the second geophones. Third data including measurements of the second seismic energy is obtained from third geophones positioned at the first depth below the earth's surface. A propagation of the first seismic energy along a first path is estimated based on the first, second and third data. One or more characteristics of the target are determined based on the estimate.
PROVIDING SEISMIC SECTIONS FOR DRILLING SYSTEMS
Techniques for determining a wellbore drilling path includes identifying input seismic data associated with a subterranean zone that includes a wellbore drilling target. The input seismic data includes primary seismic events and multiple seismic events. The input seismic data is processed to remove the multiple seismic events and at least one of the primary seismic events from the input seismic data. An orthogonalization of the processed input seismic data is performed to recover the at least one primary seismic event into a seismic image of the subterranean zone that excludes at least a portion of the multiple seismic events. A wellbore path is determined from a terranean surface toward the wellbore drilling target for a drilling geo-steering system based on the seismic image of the subterranean zone.
VERTICAL SEISMIC PROFILING FORMATION VELOCITY ESTIMATION
A method for processing vertical seismic profiling (VSP) data is provided. The method includes receiving VSP data in response to seismic energy applied to the formation, processing a down-going portion of the VSP data associated with a down-going wave field, outputting a first set of estimation values based on processing the down-going portion of the VSP data, the first set of estimation values estimating at least one of slowness or velocity, processing an up-going portion of the VSP data associated with an up-going wave field, outputting a second set of estimation values based on processing the up-going portion of the VSP data, the second set of estimation values estimating at least one of slowness or velocity, and determining an estimation associated with the formation based on the first and second sets of estimation values.
PRIME NUMBER SURVEY DESIGN
Methods of designing seismic survey and acquisition of seismic data with reduced noise using equally or optimally irregularly spaced sources or receivers are described. Specifically, prime number ratios for the station to line spacing is used to prevent harmonic leakage and other noise contaminations in the acquired seismic data.
