SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR DETERMINING A CONVERTED WAVE ATTENUATED VERTICAL SEISMIC PROFILE OF A HYDROCARBON RESERVOIR
A method of determining a shear-wave attenuated vertical component vertical seismic profile (VSP) dataset is disclosed. The method includes, obtaining a multi-component VSP dataset, including a vertical and a horizontal component, transforming the vertical component into a vertical spectrum and the horizontal component into a horizontal spectrum, and designing a band-pass filter based, at least in part, on an energetic signal of the horizontal spectrum. The method further includes determining a muted vertical amplitude spectrum by applying the pass-band filter to an amplitude spectrum of the vertical spectrum, determining an estimated noise model based on the muted vertical amplitude spectrum and the vertical spectrum; and determining the shear-wave attenuated vertical component VSP dataset by adaptively subtracting the estimated noise model from the vertical component of the multi-component VSP dataset. A system including a seismic source, a plurality of seismic receivers, and a seismic processor for executing the method is disclosed.
Anisotropic NMO correction and its application to attenuate noises in VSP data
A method for performing a formation-related operation based on corrected vertical seismic profile (VSP) data of an earth formation includes performing a VSP survey and applying a normal moveout (NMO) correction equation to the survey data that is a function of source offset to wellhead. The method also includes solving the NMO correction equation using a simulated annealing algorithm having an object function that is a coherence coefficient of semblance analysis of an NMO corrected reflection event within a time window to provide NMO corrected data. The method further includes performing the formation-related operation at at least one of a location, a depth and a depth interval based on the VSP NMO corrected data.
SEISMIC INTERFERENCE NOISE ATTENUATION USING DNN
Seismic exploration methods and data processing apparatuses employ a deep neural network to remove seismic interference (SI) noise. Training data is generated by combining an SI model extracted using a conventional model from a subset of the seismic data, with SI free shots and simulated random noise. The trained DNN is used to process the entire seismic data thereby generating an image of subsurface formation for detecting presence and/or location of sought-after natural resources.
PROCESSING SEISMIC DATA ACQUIRED USING MOVING NON-IMPULSIVE SOURCES
Methods for processing seismic data acquired with non-impulsive moving sources are provided. Some methods remove cross-talk noise from the seismic data using emitted signal data and an underground formation's response estimate, which may be iteratively enhanced. Some methods perform resampling before a spatial or a spatio-temporal inversion. Some methods compensate for source's motion during the inversion, and/or are usable for multiple independently moving sources.
Attenuation of guided waves using polarization filtering
Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for attenuating guided waves in seismic data using polarization filtering are provided. A raw hydrophone component and raw geophone component of multicomponent seismic data may be scaled using a constant scalar to enhance the ellipticity ratio of guided waves. Polarization filtering based on the ellipticity ratio may be applied within a velocity constraint to the scaled hydrophone and vertical geophone components to attenuate the guided waves. Additionally or alternatively, polarization filtering based on the tilt angle may be applied within a velocity constraint to the raw hydrophone and vertical geophone components to attenuate the guided waves. Polarization filtering may be applied to a raw hydrophone component and raw vertical geophone component of seismic data to attenuate Scholte waves before attenuation of the guided waves.
ESTIMATING A TIME VARIANT SIGNAL REPRESENTING A SEISMIC SOURCE
A method for estimating a time variant signal representing a seismic source obtains seismic data recorded by at least one receiver and generated by the seismic source, the recorded seismic data comprising direct arrivals and derives the time variant signal using an operator that relates the time variant signal to the acquired seismic data, the operator constrained such that the time variant signal is sparse in time.
NOISE ATTENUATION
Noise can be attenuated in marine seismic data from a marine seismic survey. A first near-continuous measurement of a wavefield and a second near-continuous measurement of the wavefield recorded from a marine seismic survey can be equalized, a coherent portion of the equalized second near-continuous measurement can be collapsed, and a noise model can be derived. The noise model can be subtracted from the second near-continuous measurement.
Automated system and methods for adaptive robust denoising of large-scale seismic data sets
Seismic survey data is received, indexed into index sets, and each index set partitioned into data blocks. For each particular data block of a particular index set, the particular data block is sliced into frequency slices. For each particular frequency slice of the particular data block, the particular frequency slice is processed to remove random and erratic noise by: forming a Hankel matrix from the particular frequency slice: determining an optimal rank for the Hankel matrix, determining a clean signal and erratic noise from the ranked Hankel matrix, and returning the clean signal and erratic noise for the particular frequency slice. A clean signal is assembled from the index sets.
Attenuation of Axial Vibration Noise in Pressure Sensor Measurements
Methods and apparatus are described for reducing noise in measurements made by one or more pressure sensors disposed in a cable having a generally longitudinal axis. Estimated axial vibration noise at a location along the cable is determined based at least in part on measurements from one or more motion sensors disposed along the cable. The estimated axial vibration noise is subtracted from pressure sensor measurements corresponding to the location. The result is noise-attenuated pressure sensor measurements corresponding to the location.
Seismic image filtering machine to generate a filtered seismic image, program products, and related methods
Seismic image filtering machines, systems, program products, and computer implemented methods are provided to generate a filtered seismic image responsive to filtered seismic image data generated by attenuating coherent seismic noise from surface waves of an unfiltered wavefield constructed from unfiltered seismic image data through a single downward extrapolation of the unfiltered wavefield using a plurality of nonstationary convolution operators to perform localized filtering at each of a plurality of spatial locations of the unfiltered wavefield. Various embodiments, for example, can beneficially handle strong lateral velocity variations thus making various embodiments effective tools to remove complicated coherent seismic noise which is typically in the form of exponentially decaying evanescent waves. Embodiments of the present invention, for example, can use, as a part of the filtering mechanism, specially designed nonstationary convolution operators that are implemented in the space-frequency domain as nonstationary filters.
