Displays with volume phase gratings
An electronic device may have a display system that produces images. The display system may have one or more pixel arrays such as liquid-crystal-on-silicon pixel arrays. Images from the display system may be coupled into a waveguide by an input coupler and may be coupled out of the waveguide using an output coupler. The input and output couplers may be formed from volume phase holographic gratings. An additional grating may be used to shift light that would otherwise pass above or below the user's field of view towards the viewer. Holographic gratings in the waveguide may have fringes with constant pitch and variable period. The period at a given portion of the grating may be Bragg-matched to maximize diffraction efficiency for light of a given incident angle.
Spatially multiplexed volume Bragg gratings with varied thicknesses for waveguide display
A waveguide display includes a waveguide and a grating coupler configured to couple display light into or out of the waveguide. The grating coupler includes at least a first grating layer and a second grating layer arranged in a stack. The first grating layer is characterized by a first thickness and includes a first transmission VBG configured to diffract display light of a first wavelength from a first field of view. The second grating layer is characterized by a second thickness greater than the first thickness and includes a second transmission VBG configured to diffract display light of the first wavelength from a second field of view greater than the first field of view.
See-through computer display systems
An apparatus includes an eye cover adapted to be removably mounted on a head-worn computer with a see-through computer display and a flexible audio headset mounted to the eye cover. The flexible audio headset is mounted to the eye cover with a magnetic connection.
See-through computer display systems
Embodiments include a head-worn display including a display panel sized and positioned to produce a field of view to present digital content to an eye of a user, and a processor adapted to present the digital content to the display panel such that the digital content is only presented in a portion of the field of view, the portion being in the middle of the field of view such that horizontally opposing edges of the field of view are blank areas. The processor is adapted to shift the digital content into one of the blank areas to adjust the convergence distance of the digital content and thereby change the perceived distance from the user to the digital content.
Active correction of aberrations in optical systems
A method and apparatus for correcting aberrations over the entire field of view of an optical system, in which a first part of the apparatus applies different pre-compensating aberrations individually to different portions of the field of view, such that aberrations caused by a second part of the apparatus cancel the aberrations applied by the first part. The first part of the apparatus is temporally, angularly, or spatially multiplexed and the second part of the apparatus is spatially or angularly multiplexed such that ray bundles corresponding to subsets of contiguous pixels in an image source are each subjected to corresponding pre-compensating aberrations and subsequent aberrations, resulting in a substantially non-aberrated performance over the entire field of view of the optical system.
Head-mounted display optical module
A head-mounted display optical module includes an optical lens group located at a light-emitting display side of the display panel and a protective layer located on an optical path between the display panel and the optical lens group. The protective layer includes at least one first protective layer. A refractive index of the first protective layer continuously changes therein at least along a radial direction that is located in a plane of the first protective layer and points from a center of the first protective layer to an edge of the first protective layer.
Holographic display device
A holographic display device with reduced color shifting in relation to different colors includes a display panel and a diffraction component. The display panel emits a first color light having a first emission efficiency and a second color light having a second emission efficiency. The first emission efficiency is greater than the second emission efficiency. The diffraction component on an optical path of the first and second colors of light diffracts the first color light at a first diffraction efficiency and the second color light at a second diffraction efficiency to generate a holographic image, the first diffraction efficiency is less than the second diffraction efficiency.
HEAD UP DISPLAY SYSTEM
A Head up display system includes a projection light source, laminated glass, and a transparent nano film. The transparent nano film includes at least one laminated structure consisting of a high refractive-index layer and a low refractive-index layer, where the high refractive-index layer and the low refractive-index layer is deposited sequentially outwards from the surface of the inner glass pane. The projection light source is configured to generate P-polarized light. A ratio of near-red light reflectivity R1 at wavelengths ranging from 580 nm to 680 nm of the laminated glass with the transparent nano film to near-blue light reflectivity R2 at wavelengths ranging from 420 nm to 470 nm of the laminated glass with the transparent nano film is R1/R2=1.0˜2.0.
METHOD FOR FABRICATING A CURVED EYEPIECE
Techniques and mechanisms for fabricating an eyepiece from a lens blank including blank bodies that are bonded to each other. In an embodiment, the blank bodies are formed by injection molding and adhered to one another. Fabrication of the eyepiece includes variously machining the blank bodies to shape respective lens bodies of the eyepiece. One or more blocking structures are coupled to reinforce the lens blank during at least part of such machining. In another embodiment, any blocking structures that are to resist forces of a particular machining process are coupled only indirectly to one of the blank bodies.
DISPLAY DEVICE AND DISPLAY METHOD OF THE SAME
According to one embodiment, when displaying an image on a display panel, projecting an image which is displayed on the display panel, inclining the image which is projected from the display panel at a predetermined angle of bend, and reflecting the image which is projected from the display panel via a prism and guiding the image to a projection surface, a display device corrects input picture image of the prism based on characteristics contrary to the chromatic aberration characteristics of the prism.
