CLEANING DEVICE, CHARGER, AND IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

A cleaning device cleans a discharge wire that discharges electric charge onto a discharge target. The cleaning device moves in a longitudinal direction oldie discharge wire. The cleaning device includes a first contact portion that contacts and cleans the discharge wire and a second contact portion that contacts and cleans the discharge wire. When the first contact portion and the second contact portion clean the discharge wire, the first contact portion and the second contact portion sandwich the discharge wire in a discharge direction in which the discharge wire discharges the electric charge onto the discharge target. The discharge direction is parallel to a radial direction of the discharge wire.

Image forming apparatus

A charging member which is driven so that the surface of the charging member has a speed difference from the surface of an image bearing member. In a cleaning operation for cleaning the charging member by transferring toner adhering to the surface of the charging member from the charging member to the image bearing member and collecting the transferred toner with a developing member, a first charging voltage forming a potential difference between the charging member and the image bearing member is applied to the charging member, and then a second charging voltage having the same polarity as that of the first charging voltage and an absolute value greater than that of the first charging voltage is applied. The potential difference is in a direction in which electrostatic force directed from the charging member to the image bearing member acts on the toner charged to normal polarity.

Image forming apparatus capable of prompting for replacement of at least one of a charging roller and a cleaning blade

According to one embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion, and a control portion. The image forming portion includes an image carrier, a charging device, and a cleaning device. The charging device includes a charging roller which contacts a surface of the image carrier. The cleaning device includes a cleaning blade, and an adjustment portion. The cleaning blade slidably contacts the surface of the image carrier. The adjustment portion adjusts a linear pressure of the cleaning blade exerted on the surface of the image carrier. The control portion executes, when a rate of increase of an outer layer resistance value of the charging roller caused by a decrease in the function of the cleaning blade is greater than or equal to a first rate, linear pressure adjustment control of controlling the adjustment portion to increase the linear pressure of the cleaning blade.

Image forming apparatus having a first forming mode for a first medium and a second forming mode for a second medium

An image forming apparatus includes an image holding unit that holds an image that is formed of a developer, the image being intended to be transferred onto a medium, and an image that is not intended to be transferred onto a medium, a transfer unit that transfers the image that is intended to be transferred onto a medium onto a medium, a removing unit that removes the image that is not intended to be transferred onto a medium from the image holding unit, and a forming unit that forms the image that is not intended to be transferred onto a medium onto the image holding unit by using a developer and that has a first forming mode for a first medium and a second forming mode for a second medium that has a transfer sensitivity lower than a transfer sensitivity of the first medium, the forming unit being configured to use a larger amount of the developer in formation of the image that is not intended to be transferred onto a medium in the first forming mode than in the second forming mode.
