Image forming apparatus having cartridge and waste developer accommodating portion

A photosensitive drum is rotatably supported in a main body. A developing cartridge is detachably mountable on the main body in a state where the photosensitive drum is supported in the main body. The developing cartridge includes a developing device and a frame. The developing device includes a developing roller disposed in confrontation with the photosensitive drum to supply developer to the photosensitive drum when the developing cartridge is mounted in the main body, and a developer-accommodating portion configured to accommodate developer. The frame includes a waste-developer-accommodating portion configured to accommodate waste developer and supports the developing device that is movable relative to the frame. The frame is disposed on an opposite side of the developing roller from the photosensitive drum. An urging member is disposed between the frame and the developing device to urge the developing roller toward the photosensitive drum.

Developing device

When a developing device is seen in a cross section orthogonal to a rotation axis of a rotatable developing member, a resin-made regulating blade has a cutout over an entirety of a region from a first position where the regulating blade is closest to the rotatable developing member to a second position 0.5 mm downstream of the regulating blade from the first position in a rotation direction of the rotatable developing member, and a cut amount of the cutout at the second position is 0.3 mm or more.

With respect to the developer feeding direction, a position of a downstream end portion of the inclined surface is remoter from the bearing portion than the most-upstream end of the blade with respect to the developer feeding direction.

Charge removal process in image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus executes reverse charging, toner-supply suspension, second exposure, and second charging, while a photosensitive member rotates at least a full turn. In the reverse charging, a charger charges a portion of a circumferential surface of the photosensitive member to a specified polarity. In the toner-supply suspension, before the portion, which has been charged to the second polarity in the reverse charging, of the circumferential surface of the photosensitive member passes a position at which the developer from the developing unit is configured to initially adhered to the circumferential surface, a developing unit stops supplying developer to the circumferential surface. In the second exposure, an exposure device exposes the portion, which has been charged to the specified polarity in the reverse charging, of the circumferential surface. In the second charging the charger charges the portion, which has been exposed in the second exposure, of the circumferential surface.

The holder is movable in accordance with movement of the first roller protrusion. As the first roller protrusion moves from the third position to the fourth position, the holder moves from the first position to the second position.

The driving-side shaft coupling transmits driving force, via the driven-side shaft coupling, to the developing roller. The movement supporting mechanism movably supports the developing roller between a developing position and a separated position. The displacement member applies a force to the movement supporting mechanism, and positions the developing roller at the developing position. When the movement member moves further after the driven-side shaft coupling has separated from the driving-side shaft coupling, the displacement member moves the developing roller from the developing position to the separated position.
