An electrophotographic color image forming apparatus develops an electrostatic latent image with a developer to form an image and includes a photoconductor and an optical writing device. The writing device includes a light-emitting element, a light emission control element, a deflector element, a synchronization detection element, a memory, and processing circuitry. The memory stores a first light amount of the light-emitting element when a color shift is corrected. The processing circuitry corrects the color shift by adjusting a write start timing, and corrects a detection shift generated when a light amount of light incident on the synchronization detection element fluctuates. The processing circuitry calculates a detection shift correction value of the detection shift of the synchronization detection element, using the first light amount and a second light amount determined as a lighting condition of the light-emitting element, and adds the detection shift correction value to a color shift correction value.

An image forming apparatus includes a discharging portion to discharge a sheet on which the image has been formed, an image reading portion to read the image formed on the sheet, and a switching portion to switch between a first position where the discharged sheet is conveyed to a supporting portion and a second position where the discharged sheet is conveyed toward the image reading portion. The sheet conveyed toward the image reading portion is conveyed to a reading position after conveyance of the sheet by the discharging portion is finished, and the control portion conveys the sheet at a first conveyance speed in a period before a trailing end of the sheet is released from the discharging portion and conveys the sheet at a second conveyance speed different from the first conveyance speed in a period after the trailing end of the sheet is released from the discharging portion.

An image forming apparatus is connected to a paper processing apparatus and includes an image forming unit, a nip part and a hardware processor. The image forming unit performs image forming on continuous paper being conveyed on a conveyance path. The nip part nips the paper on the conveyance path. The processor selectively performs first control and second control according to an output timing of a conveyance control signal if the signal is output from the paper processing apparatus or the image forming apparatus. In the first control, the processor notifies the paper processing apparatus of permission to start or stop conveying the paper after causing the nip part to perform a press-and-contact operation or a separation operation. In the second control, the processor notifies the paper processing apparatus of the permission without causing the nip part to perform either operation.
