An image forming apparatus that uses set sheet information and is capable of reducing time and effort in replenishing sheets. At least one sheet feed cassette stores sheets. Sheet information of the sheet feed cassette is set according to specifications of the stored sheets using a setting screen displayed on a console panel. Print processing is performed using sheets corresponding to information on sheets included in a print job. It is determined whether or not the information on sheets corresponds to the sheet information of the sheet feed cassette. A sensor detects operations of opening and closing the sheet feed cassette. Even when an operation of opening the cassette or removal of the same has been detected, if the sheet information of the cassette corresponds to the information on sheets, the console panel does not display the setting screen.

An apparatus includes a movable regulation member that regulates a trailing edge side position of a sheet stack stored in a storage portion in a sheet feeding direction, a trailing edge detection portion, movable together with the regulation member, that detects a sheet surface on the trailing edge side of the sheet stack, and a control unit that detects whether the regulation member is positioned to an end surface on the trailing edge side of the sheet stack based on a detection result by the trailing edge detection portion, and that causes a display unit to provide a warning if the regulation member is not positioned to the end surface, wherein, if a predetermined sheet with thicknesses different between leading edge and trailing edge sides thereof in the sheet feeding direction is set by a setting unit, the control unit does not cause the display unit to provide the warning.

A remaining paper determination apparatus that determines existence/non-existence of remaining paper in a paper conveyance path that conveys paper, includes: a capacitance sensor that detects capacitance of the paper conveyance path; and a remaining paper determination part that determines existence/non-existence of remaining paper on the basis of a detection value of the capacitance sensor, wherein the remaining paper determination part includes a base level setting part that sets a base level on the basis of an output value of the capacitance sensor of when there is no paper in the paper conveyance path, and a threshold setting part that sets a determination threshold by adding a predetermined default value to the base level, and compares the detection value of the capacitance sensor with a latest determination threshold and performs determination according to a magnitude relationship therebetween.

A detector, which is included in a sheet feeding device, a sheet conveying device, an image forming apparatus and an image reading device, contacts and detects a sheet, and includes a base, a sheet contact face to which the sheet contacts, and a coat layer formed on the sheet contact face. A difference of a static coefficient of friction s of the coat layer and a kinetic coefficient of friction d of the coat layer is smaller than and equal to 0.12.

An image forming apparatus is operable in a first mode in which a control unit is in a rest state and a second mode in which electric power is supplied to the control unit. A sheet discriminator, which can be included in an image forming apparatus, includes a sheet loader on which a recording medium is loaded, an information detector including a light emitter to emit light to a surface of the recording medium loaded on the sheet loader and a light receiver to receive the light emitted by the light emitter and detecting information of the recording medium, a sheet distinguisher to distinguish a type of the recording medium based on the information detected by the information detector, and a detector body encasing at least the information detector therein and having an opening formed on an opposing face facing the sheet loader. The opposing face has an opening formed thereon. The opening has at least one arc-shaped side.

When it is judged that a predetermined operation for eliminating a cause for stopping a job is being executed, a following job is restricted from being executed prior to a stopped job. A control method for controlling a job processing apparatus for storing received jobs in a storage unit and sequentially executing the stored jobs includes determining, when a cause for stopping the job to be executed is generated, whether a state in which the cause for stopping the job is not eliminated has continued for a predetermined time, executing, when it is determined that the state in which the cause for stopping the job is not eliminated has continued for the predetermined time, a following job that follows the job is executed prior to the job, judging whether a predetermined operation for eliminating the cause for stopping the job is being executed, and restricting, when it is judged that a predetermined operation for eliminating the cause for stopping the job is being executed, the following job is restricted from being executed prior to the job.

An image forming apparatus, including: a decision unit configured to decide a size of a recording material on a manual feed tray; a storage unit configured to store the size of the recording material decided by the decision unit when the image forming apparatus is shifted from a first mode in which power is supplied to the decision unit to a second mode in which the power is not supplied to the decision unit; a display unit configured to display information; and a control unit configured to cause the display unit to display a screen for confirming the size of the recording material on the manual feed tray in a case where the size of the recording material decided by the decision unit when the apparatus is shifted from the second mode to the first mode does not match the size of the recording material stored in the storage unit.

A paper feed device includes a paper tray, a set-state sensor, a paper feed unit, and a control unit. The control unit checks an output from the set-state sensor each time before the start of the intermittent paper feed. In the case where no paper feed is detected even after the prescribed number of times of the intermittent paper feed, the control unit determines that a non-feed jam has occurred. In the case where it is detected that there is no paper on the paper tray before the number of repetition of the intermittent paper feed reaches the prescribed number of times, the control unit causes the paper feed unit to terminate the retry processing and determines that, with no paper on the paper tray, it is not the non-feed jam.
