The printer is arranged to print media-related information onto media that are left over in the media storage device after a print process. The media storage device includes a tray arranged for accommodating cut media sheets and having an auxiliary printer for printing the media-related information onto a sheet in the tray.

An image forming apparatus includes a plurality of feeding decks each containing a recording sheet, a display unit, an image forming unit that forms an image on the recording sheet conveyed from one of the plurality of feeding decks, a scanning unit that scans the image formed by the image forming unit, one or more processors and one or more memories cooperating to perform control to display information about the plurality of feeding decks on the display unit and select a feeding deck from among the plurality of feeding decks based on a user instruction, and a diagnosis unit that diagnoses a defective part in the image forming unit based on the image formed on the recording sheet by the image forming unit, the recording sheet being conveyed from the selected feeding deck, the image being obtained by scanning by the scanning unit.

A paper feed device includes: a sensor unit that includes a coil substrate and a conductive plate which is opposite the coil substrate, that outputs an output value corresponding to a position of the conductive plate; a first cursor link mechanism which moves the first conductive plate according to the position of the first cursor in the longitudinal direction of the first coil substrate; a storage unit which stores first sheet size data; and a control unit which recognizes the magnitude of the first output value of the sensor unit and which recognizes, based on the recognized magnitude of the first output value and the first sheet size data, the size of the set sheets.

A printing apparatus that sets a setting value to be used as a threshold value for notifying the user of a decreased amount of recording material, the setting value being one of a first setting indicating that a threshold value set by a user is to be used or a second setting indicating that the user-set threshold value is not to be used.

Provided is an image-forming device that improves convenience for a user. The image-forming device includes a plurality of power-supply stages, remaining paper amount detection sensors, and a system control unit. A remaining paper amount detection sensor detects the remaining paper amount in a paper-supply stage. When the remaining paper amount that is detected by the remaining paper amount detection sensor is less than a fixed value, the system control unit sets the paper-supply stage having a paper amount that is less than the fixed value as a FAX use only paper-supply stage.

An image forming apparatus which prevents degradation of sheets stacked in a stacking unit. A sheet feeding unit has a first stacking unit and a second stacking unit. When sheets stacked in the first stacking unit have run out, sheets stacked in the second stacking unit are moved to the first stacking unit. A remaining amount of sheets in the sheet feeding unit is indicated on a display unit. When sheets are stacked in the second stacking unit, the display unit provides an indication that a remaining amount of sheets in the sheet feeding unit is the largest.

Described embodiments include a system and method. A print sheet media management system includes a feeder apparatus configured to transfer a sheet from a stack of printable sheet media to a print engine. The system includes a weight sensor configured to sense a weight of the stack of printable sheet media. The system includes an evaluation circuit configured to estimate the number of sheets in the stack of printable sheet media in response to (i) a sensed weight of the stack of printable sheet media before a sheet of the stack of printable sheet media is transferred and (ii) a sensed weight of the stack of printable sheet media after the sheet of printable sheet media is transferred. The system includes a communications circuit configured to transmit data indicative of the estimated number of printable sheets in the stack of printable sheet media.

A printing device for implementing printing on a medium includes a detection unit and a control unit. The detection unit is configured to detect loading of the medium into the printing device and withdrawal of the medium from the printing device. The control unit is configured to indicate contents displayed on a display screen. The control unit is further configured to generate a first signal of displaying a first screen on the display screen when the detection unit detects that the medium has been withdrawn from the printing device, and generate a second signal of displaying a second screen different from the first screen on the display screen when the detection unit detects that the medium has been loaded into the printing device.
