An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion, a belt, a plurality of stretching rollers including an inner roller and an upstream roller, an outer member, an urging member, a first position changing mechanism, a storing portion, a controller, and an operating portion. The controller controls the first position changing mechanism on the basis of a kind of a recording material on which an image is formed, first set information stored in the storing portion, and first input information for changing setting of a position of the urging member inputted to the controller through the operating portion.

An image forming apparatus includes: a sheet profile setter; a conveyer; an image former that forms an image on a sheet conveyed by the conveyer in accordance with an image forming condition; a sheet physical property measurer that makes measurement of a physical property value of the sheet; a conformity determiner that makes determination of conformity between the sheet fed from the sheet feed tray and a sheet indicated by the sheet profile set in the sheet feed tray; and a notifier that determines which has been performed more recently between insertion of the sheet into the sheet feed tray and setting of the sheet profile to the sheet feed tray before the measurement so as to send a notification of a result of the determination, by a first notification method in a former case and by a second notification method in a latter case.

In accordance with an embodiment, an image forming apparatus comprises a printing setting acquisition section and a printer section. The printing setting acquisition section acquires printing setting information for holding setting at the time of printing for each kind of a sheet. The printer section applies, in a case in which a label paper is selected as the kind of the sheet, a developing agent in the vicinity of an area coming into contact with an end part of the sheet in an area on an image carrier for transferring the developing agent to the sheet, transfers the developing agent by a transfer member for transferring the developing agent from the image carrier to the sheet, and rotates the transfer member at least once.

An image forming apparatus that forms an image on a sheet under an operation condition set depending on a sheet type, includes a hardware processor that: detects whether the sheet type is any one of a plurality of assumed types; performs control such that an activation operation for forming the image under an interim condition, which is an operation condition corresponding to one of the plurality of assumed types, is performed before detecting the sheet type; determines whether or not a recovery operation for optimizing a state of image formation is performed before starting image formation under a determinate condition, which is an operation condition corresponding to the detected type; performs control such that the recovery operation is performed when it is determined that the recovery operation is performed; and performs control such that the image formation is performed under the determinate condition after the recovery operation is performed.

Provided is an image forming apparatus capable of detecting a type of a sheet accommodated in a sheet feeding tray in advance. The image forming apparatus includes a conveyor, an image former, a fixer, a detector, and a processor. The conveyor conveys the sheet accommodated in the sheet feeding tray along a conveying path. The image former forms an image on the sheet. The fixer fixes the image onto the sheet. The detector is arranged on the conveying path and detects the type of the sheet. The processor executes a sheet type detection mode which is a mode for causing the detector to detect the type of the sheet conveyed by the conveyor before executing an. image forming mode which is a mode for causing the image former to form the image and causing the fixer to fix the image.

A printer and a printing method are proposed. The printer and the printing method include transferring printing paper until a cutting target marker first disposed after a location at which the printing of a unit output has been completed based on the transfer direction of the printing paper reaches a cutting position, and cutting the corresponding location when the printing paper is transferred until the cutting target marker reaches the cutting position.

A sheet distinguishing device that determines sheet type and includes a light emitter, a light receiver, a calculator 53, and a determiner 52. The light emitter irradiates a sheet with light at discrete wavelengths. The light receiver receives light from the sheet. The calculator 53 obtains an intensity of light for each of the discrete wavelengths from the light received, and calculates a characteristic value with respect to a wavelength distribution of light intensity, based on the intensities obtained. The determiner 52 determines whether the sheet is a first type or a second type by using the characteristic value.

A recording sheet characteristics sensing device includes: a transmitted-light source that emits light onto a principal surface of a recording sheet being conveyed; a transmitted-light quantity detector that measures a quantity of transmitted light having passed through the recording sheet, the transmitted light being of the light emitted by the transmitted-light source; a transmitted-light diaphragm that has a diaphragm hole and limits the transmitted light entering the transmitted-light quantity detector to the transmitted light having passed through the diaphragm hole; and a sensor that senses characteristics of the recording sheet being conveyed, using the quantity of transmitted light detected by the transmitted-light quantity detector, wherein the diaphragm hole is narrower in a conveying direction than in a direction perpendicular to the conveying direction.
