Prosthetic joint with articulating surface layers comprising ADLC
The prosthetic joint has at least two members having each a cooperating articulating surface layer on a substrate material. At least one of said articulating surface layers comprises amorphous diamond-like carbon; or Titanium Nitrate (TiN) on a bonding layer bonded to the substrate material. The prosthetic joint provides a reduction of the number of wear debris and shows enhanced dry run properties.
Patellar ligament spacer for ACL injuries
A method and implant to treat anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are disclosed. The method involves advancing the insertion of the patellar ligament to the proximal tibia. The implant includes a spacer (30) which is inserted between the patellar ligament and the tibia and fixed to the tibia. The spacer decreases the angle between the patellar ligament and the tibia plateau and consequently modifies the internal joint force, restoring stability to the joint even if the ACL is ruptured. The method and implants are applicable to both human and canine patients.
Polymer based joint implants and method of manufacture
A method and implant based on injection molding techniques. The method produces polymeric components suitable for implantation with a structure and mechanical properties close to those of natural bone tissue. In a variant, method for making an implant or component thereof includes forming a standard shape foamed blank, and over-molding a thin layer of non-foamed PEEK material onto the standard shaped foamed blank to obtain a final implant component geometry, whereby the blank is completely encapsulated by the over-molded layer.
Intervertebral disc
This invention relates to an intervertebral motion disc having two motion surfaces and. wherein the radius of the upper articulation surface of the core member is greater than the radius of the lower articulation surface of the core member, and wherein the first articulation surface of the core member is spherical and the second articulation surface of the core member is curved and non-spherical.
INTERVERTEBRAL IMPLANT WITH KEEL
An intervertebral implant component of an intervertebral implant includes an outer surface for engaging an adjacent vertebra and an inner surface. A keel extends from the outer surface and is designed to be disposed in a slot provided in the adjacent vertebra. This keel extends in a plane which is non-perpendicular to the outer surface; and preferably there are two of the keels extending from the outer surface which are preferably offset laterally from one another. In another embodiment, an anterior shelf is provided at an anterior end of the outer surface, and this anterior shelf extends vertically away from the inner surface in order to help prevent bone growth from the adjacent vertebra towards the inner surface. Further in accordance with disclosed embodiments, various materials, shapes and forms of construction of the component and/or keel provide various benefits.
ARTIFICIAL DISC REPLACEMENTS WITH NATURAL KINEMATICS
This invention improves upon prior art total disc replacements (TDRs) by more closely replicating the kinematics of a natural disc. The preferred embodiments feature two or more fixed centers of rotation (CORs) and an optional variable COR (VCOR) as the artificial disk replacement (ADR) translates from a fixed posterior COR that lies posterior to the COR of the TDR to facilitate normal disc motion. The use of two or more CORs allows more flexion and more extension than permitted by the facet joints and the artificial facet (AF). AF joint-like components may also be incorporated into the design to restrict excessive translation, rotation, and/or lateral bending.
APPLICATIONS OF DIFFUSION HARDENING TECHNIQUES
A device, for example a medical implant, and a method of making the same, the device having a metal or metal alloy substrate, for example cobalt chrome, and a diffusion hardened metallic surface, for example a plasma carburized surface, contacting a non-diffusion hardened surface or a diffusion hardened surface having a diffusion hardening species different from that of the opposing surface.

EXPANDABLE INTERBODY DEVICE
An expandable interbody device used as a prosthesis during spinal surgery. The expandable interbody device is configured to be inserted into the space between spinal discs to provide stability. The expandable interbody device includes a drive block, a top endplate, a bottom endplate, a first drive arrangement, and a second drive arrangement; the first drive arrangement includes a first drive screw, a first left side slide, a second left side slide, a first upper left side linkage, a second upper left side linkage, a first lower left side linkage age and a second lower left side linkage; and the second drive arrangement includes a second drive screw, a first right side slide, a second right side slide, a first upper right side linkage, a second upper right side linkage, a first lower right side linkage and a second lower right side linkage.
