Key structure
09799467 · 2017-10-24 · ·

A key structure includes a supporting plate, a keycap, a frame and a movable plate. The supporting plate is disposed over the movable plate. The keycap is disposed over the supporting plate. The frame is disposed over the supporting plate and arranged around the keycap. The frame includes a linking element. The linking element is inserted in a groove of the movable plate. While the movable plate is moved, the linking element is moved along the groove in response to the movement of the movable plate and the frame is ascended to a position at the same level with the keycap. Consequently, the top surface of the frame and the top surface of the keycap are collaboratively defined as a flat surface.

KEYCAP WITH PHOTOLUMINESCENT MATERIAL

Particular embodiments described herein provide for an electronic device that can be configured to include a keycap with photoluminescent material, a light energy source to emit light energy at a wavelength to activate the photoluminescent material, and an ambient light sensor to activate the light energy source during low ambient light conditions. In an example, the photoluminescent material is quantum dot material.

Method of forming a keypad assembly

A keypad for an electronic device is provided and includes a substrate comprising an array of dome elements, an array of frets, an array of mechanical keys disposed in rows interleaved between the frets, a first deflection web supportively disposed adjacent to the substrate and a second deflection web disposed between the frets and the keys and the first deflection web. The substrate is configured to pre-load the first and second deflection webs toward the keys.

NON-WOVEN MATERIAL DEVICE COVERING

A method of covering a device includes splitting a sheet of non-woven material between a cosmetic surface of the non-woven material and a non-cosmetic surface of the non-woven material. This produces two sheets—a cosmetic sheet of the non-woven material including the cosmetic surface and a first split surface opposite the cosmetic surface, and a non-cosmetic sheet of the non-woven material including the non-cosmetic surface and a second split surface opposite the non-cosmetic surface. The method further includes applying an at least partially transparent coating to the non-cosmetic surface of the non-cosmetic sheet. The first split surface of the cosmetic sheet is affixed to a first portion of the device, and the second split surface of the non-cosmetic sheet is affixed to a second portion of the device.

Actuation lock for a touch sensitive mechanical keyboard
09785251 · 2017-10-10 · ·

Touch sensitive mechanical keyboards and methods of configuring the depressibility of one or more keys of a keyboard are provided. A touch sensitive mechanical keyboard can accept touch events performed on the surface of the keys. Additionally, the keyboard can accept key depressions as textual input. The keyboard can be placed in a gesture operation mode, which can lock the keys to prevent a user from inadvertently depressing a key while attempting to perform a touch event on the surface of the keys. The keyboard can also be placed in a key press mode, which can allow depression of the keys by a user.

LOCK MECHANISM, AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE EQUIPPED WITH LOCK MECHANISM
20170285692 · 2017-10-05 ·

A lock mechanism of the present disclosure includes an engaging member, an operating member, and a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism translates a linear movement of the operating member between a first position and a second position into a rotation of the engaging member between a first rotational position and a second rotational position so that, when the operating member is moved to the first position, the engaging member is rotated to the first rotational position, and, when the operating member is moved to the second position, the engaging member is rotated to the second rotational position. The engaging member includes a pair of engaging pieces around a rotation shaft center, and an engaging-target portion includes a pair of engaging recesses with which the pair of engaging pieces engages when the engaging member lies at the first rotational position, and from which the pair of engaging pieces disengages when the engaging member lies at the second rotational position.

One embodiment provides a method, including: receiving, at an electronic device, user input comprising a predetermined gesture; determining, using a processor, a first set of coordinates associated with the predetermined gesture; receiving, after the user input, another user input comprising the predetermined gesture at the electronic device; determining, using a processor, a second set of coordinates associated with the predetermined gesture of the another user input, wherein the second set of coordinates is different than the first set of coordinates; comparing the first and second sets of coordinates; and determining, based on the comparing, an offset between the first and second set of coordinates. Other aspects are described and claimed.

INPUT DEVICE ADAPTED FOR AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE

An input device installed on a housing includes a casing, a first input module, a second input module and a fixing mechanism. The casing has a first face and a second face opposite to the first face. The first input module is disposed on the first face. The second input module is disposed on the second face. The fixing mechanism is disposed on at least one of the casing and the housing. When the casing is oriented with the first face facing the housing to be installed into the housing, the fixing mechanism fixes the casing, such that the second input module is exposed on the casing. When the casing is oriented with the second face facing the housing to be installed into the housing, the fixing mechanism fixes the casing, such that the first input module is exposed on the casing.

Locking mechanisms to lock key movement of keyboards

An example device in accordance with an aspect of the present disclosure includes a base housing, display housing, and locking mechanism. The base housing includes a keyboard, and the display housing is pivotably coupled to the base housing. The locking mechanism is to lock key movement of the keyboard based on the display housing being pivoted according to a first range. The locking mechanism is to unlock key movement based on the display housing being pivoted according to a second range.

ELECTRONIC DEVICE WITH KEYBOARD PROTECTION

Particular embodiments described herein provide for an electronic device, such as a notebook computer or laptop, that includes a circuit board coupled to a plurality of electronic components (which includes any type of components, elements, circuitry, etc.). One particular example implementation of the electronic device may include a first housing, a hinge, and a second housing. The second housing can be rotatably coupled to the first housing using the hinge. The second housing can include a first portion, a second hinge, and a second portion. The second portion can be rotatably coupled to the first portion using the second hinge. In an embodiment, the second portion can rotate over the keyboard and the second housing can rotate behind the display.
