According to various embodiments, provided are an electronic device and a control method therefor, the electronic device comprising: a main body comprising at least one electronic component; a rotating body rotatably provided in a manner such that the rotating body encompasses at least a part of a region of the main body; a rotation detection means for detecting a rotation parameter of the rotating body; and at least one processor for performing a corresponding function of the electronic device on the basis of the detected rotation parameter.

A pointing device includes: a substrate; an operation member that is provided tiltably with respect to the substrate, and includes a protrusion protruded from one of an inner wall and an outer wall; and a rotation member that is provided rotatably on the substrate, and includes a hole which the protrusion enters when the rotation member overlaps the operation member; wherein the rotation member rotates in conjunction with the operation member when the protrusion contacts an edge of the hole according to rotation of the operation member, wherein the hole is formed in a range in which the protrusion is movable by tilt of the operation member.

An input/output device is provided. The input/output device may include an output device having a display surface, on which characters or symbols are displayed, a body rotatably provided above the display surface, a body through-hole formed in the body to allow the display surface to be visible from an outside of the body, a signal generation device configured to generate a control signal according to whether the body is rotated, and a controller configured to control the output device based on the control signal input from the signal generation device.

An electronic device is described. The electronic device may include a housing, a rotatable crown, and a self-mixing interferometry (SMI) sensor positioned within the housing. The rotatable crown may include an array of retroreflective surface features that reflect incident light back to a light source. Each retroreflective surface feature of the array of retroreflective surface features may be formed as a corner-cube with three perpendicular faces. The SMI sensor or associated processing electronics may compare originally emitted light with reflected light to identify a movement or distance of the rotatable crown with respect to the SMI sensor.

A barcode reader and a docking station for charging the barcode reader are disclosed. The barcode reader may be an elongated pen-shaped device that includes a capacitive tip for use as a stylus against a capacitive touch screen and a barcode reader for reading a barcode. The barcode reader may be docked in the docking station for charging. The docking station may include a magnetic structure for holding the barcode reader to the docking station, and a positioning structure for aligning the charging contacts of the barcode reader and the docking station. The docking station may include a battery such that the barcode reader may be charged from the battery while being docked in the docking station.

In some aspects, the disclosure is directed to methods and systems for an advanced computer input device with a rotational degree of freedom (z.sub.rot) in addition to two translation degrees of freedom (x and y), in an easy and intuitive fashion. A plurality of independent position sensors may be arranged on a lower surface of the computer input device, each determining a direction and velocity of motion of the input device when in use. The detected directions and velocities may be compared to determine whether a rotational motion of the input device has been applied as opposed to (or in addition to) a translation.

Methods of controlling objects using an apparatus including a motion sensor and a processing unit and include sensing motion, converting the motion into a command function and processing the command function based on the sensed motion.

The instant disclosure provides a scanning light-guiding encoder by forward focusing including a light-guiding grating wheel, a light-emitting module and an optical sensing module. The light-emitting module is surrounded by the light-guiding grating wheel. The optical sensing module includes a plurality of sensor elements adjacent to the light-guiding grating wheel, and a plurality of exposed sensor areas of the plurality of sensor elements are offset in the transverse direction and are arranged along a plurality of different horizontal lines parallel to each other.

A barcode-reading system may include a barcode reader that includes an illumination system, an image sensor, an optic system, a supercapacitor, and a first wireless point-to-point interface. The illumination system may be configured to illuminate a target area. The image sensor may be configured to capture an image of the target area. The optic system may be configured to focus reflected light from the target area onto the image sensor. The supercapacitor may be configured to provide operating power to the barcode reader. The barcode-reading system may also include a docking station configured to provide charging power to charge the supercapacitor of the barcode reader. The docking station may include a second wireless point-to-point interface. The first wireless point-to-point interface and the second wireless point-to-point interface may be configured to establish a wireless point-to-point communication link between the barcode reader and the docking station.

An interim charging system includes a docking station and a case for a mobile device. The case is magnetically secured to the docking station. The docking station includes a power source and a charger that charges the mobile device in the case.
