The garment is preferably lightweight but insulating and is essentially a one piece garment. A hood, which may be detachable, is sized to allow for conformance to the infant's head and to provide a snug fit to enhance the insulating aspect of the undergarment. The hood is attached with tape, velcro, or other fasteners which would minimize the choking hazard for infants. The hood may be interchangeably used with other one piece garments which are configured to detachably receive the hood, the hood being adjustable to accommodate different head/neck sizes.

A first elastic member is coupled to the sleeve to tighten the sleeve on the arm. A glove is provided and the glove is selectively worn on a hand. The glove is comprised of an opaque material to block sunlight thereby inhibiting the sunlight from burning the hand.

In an embodiment, the printed coating includes a cooling agent, a phase change material, and a heat dissipation material. In operation, the article of apparel is effective to delay/diminish the rise in skin temperature (compared to a garment lacking the membrane), increasing wearer comfort.

The inflation trigger may be a pull tab configured to inflate the PFD when desired. The inflation trigger may be a sensor configured to automatically inflate the PFD when the sensor is wet. An exemplary pop-up vest implementation may be configured with a water activated light to improve visibility. Some pop-up vest designs may comprise a whistle permitting the user to raise awareness of their location.
