VALIDITY TABLE FOR SOLID STATE DRIVES
A method performed by a controller of a solid-state drive (SSD) comprising splitting a logical to physical mapping table in a non-volatile semiconductor memory device of the SSD into a plurality of regions, each of the regions associated with a plurality of logical cluster addresses (LCAs), determining if the mapping table for each region contains an entry with a valid address, setting a validity status in a validity bit for a region of the plurality of regions if the mapping table for the region contains any mapped addresses, and storing the validity bit for each region in a validity bitmap table (VBT).
HETEROGENEOUS INDEXING AND LOAD BALANCING OF BACKUP AND INDEXING RESOURCES
Indexing preferences generally associate each data source with a type of indexing technology and/or with an index/catalog and/or with a computing device that hosts the index/catalog for tracking backup data generated from the source data. Indexing preferences govern which index/catalog receives transaction logs for a given storage operation. Thus, indexing destinations are defined granularly and flexibly in reference to the source data. Load balancing without user intervention assures that the various index/catalogs are fairly distributed in the illustrative backup systems by autonomously initiating migration jobs. Criteria for initiating migration jobs are based on past usage and going-forward trends. An illustrative migration job re-associates data sources with a different destination media agent and/or index/catalog, including transferring some or all relevant transaction logs and/or indexing information from the old host to the new host.
Automatic Application of Software Updates to Container Images Based on Dependencies
Automatic application of software patches to software associated with container images based upon image relationships in a dependency tree. The computing device determines whether software associated with a base container image requires software patches. The computing device accesses dependency trees maintaining image relationships between the base container image and dependent container images. The computing device determines based upon the accessed one or more dependency trees whether the base container image has dependent container images derived from the base container image. The computing device applies software patches to the software associated with the base container image. The computing device rebuilds the base container image with the applied software patches. The computing device then rebuilds the dependent container images dependent upon the rebuilt base container image.
Migration of existing computing systems to cloud computing sites or virtual machines
Software, firmware, and systems are described herein that migrate functionality of a source physical computing device to a destination virtual machine. A non-production copy of data associated with a source physical computing device is created. A configuration of the source physical computing device is determined. A configuration for a destination virtual machine is determined based at least in part on the configuration of the source physical computing device. The destination virtual machine is provided access to data and metadata associated with the source physical computing device using the non-production copy of data associated with the source physical computing device.
METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR RECREATING A PROGRAM STATE
There is provided a computer implemented method, a system for performing the method, and a computer program for recreating a program state. In one aspect, the invention comprises associating a step counter with respective points in the progress of a program's execution and generating a snapshot by storing the set of program values associated with a first step counter value. The state of the program is subsequently recreated by recreating the program state from the snapshot preceding the point in the progress of the program execution associated with a query step counter value and executing the program from the recreated state of the program to the point in the progress of the program execution associated with the second index reference value, including using previously stored non-deterministic values.
Systems and methods for providing real time security and access monitoring of a removable media device
A method comprises detecting a removable media device being coupled to an external device port of a digital device having an operating system and a file system, authenticating a password to access the removable media device, causing redirection code to be temporarily generated on the digital device, intercepting with the redirection code a data request, determining to allow the data request based on a security policy, allowing the operating system or file system to provide the data based on the determination, detecting the removable media device being removed from the digital device; and terminating the at least a portion of the redirection code.
Metadata track entry sorting in a data storage system
In one aspect of metadata track entry sorting in accordance with the present description, recovery logic sorts a list of metadata entries as a function of a source data track identification of each metadata entry to provide a second, sorted list of metadata entries, and generates a recovery volume which includes data tracks which are a function of one or more data target tracks identified by the sorted list of metadata entries. Because the metadata entry contents of the sorted list have been sorted as a function of source track identification number, the particular time version of a particular source track may be identified more quickly and more efficiently. As a result, recovery from data loss may be achieved more quickly and more efficiently thereby providing a significant improvement in computer technology. Other features and aspects may be realized, depending upon the particular application.
SYSTEM FOR BLOCKING A RANSOMWARE ATTACK
Provided is a system for blocking a phishing attack including a phishing attack prevention storage device, and an agent program which is installed in a user terminal or a service server and performs an interworking operation with the phishing attack prevention storage device when the user terminal or the service server is connected with the phishing attack prevention storage device via a network. According to the embodiment of the present invention, when there is an open request for the file stored in the phishing attack prevention storage device from the user terminal or the service server, the phishing attack prevention storage device may check a storage operation mode and create a fake file other than the open-requested original file when the storage operation mode corresponds to a list-only mode to return the fake file to the user terminal or the service server.
Automatic repair of corrupted blocks in a database
A distributed data warehouse system maintains data blocks on behalf of clients, and stores primary and secondary copies of data blocks on different disks or nodes in a cluster. The data warehouse system may back up data blocks in a key-value backup storage system. In response to a query targeting a data block previously stored in the cluster, the data warehouse system may determine whether a consistent, uncorrupted copy of the data block is available in the cluster (e.g., by applying a consistency check). If not (e.g., if a disk or node failed), the data warehouse system may automatically initiate an operation to restore the data block from the backup storage system, using a unique identifier of the data block to access a backup copy. The target data may be returned in a query response prior to restoring primary and secondary copies of the data block in the cluster.
RECOMMENDATION SYSTEM FOR BUILDING AND VALIDATING DATABASE SOFTWARE IN A SHARED MANAGEMENT ENVIRONMENT
Techniques for building, validating, and utilizing custom database software in a shared management environment are described. A database customization service allows users to provide database installation files as part of a configuration to generate a custom database engine version. The creation of custom database engine versions may be governed by policy, and the database customization service may provide recommendations for creating custom database engine versions according to various criteria. The custom database engine version can be built, and its functionality and correctness verified. Users may launch database instances using these custom database engine versions that can be managed under a shared management scheme where both users and the database customization service can perform host-level management.
