Cell-based backup for recovering from system failures in a multi-tenant computing system
A multi-tenant computing system provides services to a number of different tenant organizations. To address the problem of failure of portions of the system, the hardware infrastructure of the system is located at a number of different geographical locations. The various tenants are assigned to one of a set of “cells,” each cell corresponding to one of the geographical locations. Additionally, each cell has another one of the cells assigned to it as a backup cell, and the data of each cell is replicated within its assigned backup cell. At system run time, if a failure is detected within one of the cells, the network redirection is used within the multi-tenant system to reflect that the backup cell for the failing cell is now handling requests for the failing cell. Upon determination that the failing cell has been repaired and is now again correctly functioning, the network redirection is no longer employed, such that the (formerly) failing cell again handles its own requests.
APPLICATION LIFECYCLE MANAGEMENT BASED ON REAL-TIME RESOURCE USAGE
Application lifecycle management based on real-time resource usage. A first plurality of resource values that quantify real-time computing resources used by a first instance of an application is determined at a first point in time. Based on the first plurality of resource values, one or more utilization values are stored in a profile that corresponds to the application. Subsequent to storing the one or more utilization values in the profile, it is determined that a second instance of the application is to be initiated. The profile is accessed, and the second instance of the application is caused to be initiated on a first computing device utilizing the one or more utilization values identified in the profile.
Methods and systems for implementing parental controls
Methods and systems for a media guidance application that provides advanced parental control features such as allowing parents to establish parental controls in a dynamic and individualized manner and allowing parents to track and/or limit the amount of time that a child views media content of a particular type.
Technologies for managing memory on a compute device
Technologies for managing memory on a compute device are disclosed. The compute device is configured to determine the quality of a user experience of the compute device when a certain combination of applications are running on the compute device and stores an indication of the quality of the user experience that corresponds to that combination of applications. At a later time, such as when a user selects an application to be launched, the compute device may check if the current combination of applications is expected to have an acceptable quality of a user experience. If not, the compute device may kill one or more of the current combination of applications to improve the expected quality of the user experience.
System, method, and computer program for determining a network situation in a communication network
A system, method, and computer program product are provided for a determining a network situation in a communication network. In use, at least one threshold value of at least one operational parameter of a communication network is obtained, the at least one operational parameter representing at least one operational status of at least one of a computational device or a communication device. Additionally, log data of the communication network is obtained, the log data containing at least one value of the at least one operational parameter reported by at least one network entity of the communication network. The at least one value of the at least one operational parameter of the log data is compared with a corresponding threshold value of the at least one threshold value to form a detection of a network situation. Further, the detection of the network situation is reported if the at least one value of the at least one operational parameter of the log data traverses the corresponding threshold value of the at least one threshold value.
Generating compact data structures for monitoring data processing performance across high scale network infrastructures
A compact data structure generation engine can be used to generate a compact data structure that represents performance data for high-scale networks. The compact data structure representing the performance data can be used to monitor the operation performed on or by a computer system to identify potentially anomalous conditions. In response, a corrective action can be taken to address the issue. This can be useful, for example, in improving the efficiency, effectiveness, and reliability of the computer system during operation.
Query watchdog
A system for monitoring job execution includes an interface and a processor. The interface is configured to receive an indication to start a cluster processing job. The processor is configured to determine whether processing a data instance associated with the cluster processing job satisfies a watchdog criterion; and in the event that processing the data instance satisfies the watchdog criterion, cause the processing of the data instance to be killed.
Optimizing hardware replacement using performance analytics
A solution is disclosed for computer hardware replacement using performance analytics that selects replacement computer hardware based on actual user needs and enterprise priorities. Key performance data is collected and compared with various baselines, thereby identifying hardware that is performing below acceptable levels. Enterprise data and collected data are received from an instrumented operating system on a computing device. The collected data includes boot performance, application performance, and hardware performance. Based at least on the collected data, a usability score is determined by performing a weighted calculation on the collected data. Based at least on the usability score and the enterprise data, it is determined whether a score improvement is required. Based at least on the enterprise data, a score improvement selection is determined. The score improvement selection is reported based at least on determining that a score improvement is required.
Precise longitudinal monitoring of memory operations
A processor includes a memory subunit that includes a status register and an execution engine unit to: randomly select a load operation to monitor; determine a re-order buffer identifier of the load operation; and transmit the re-order buffer identifier to the memory subsystem. Responsive to receipt of the re-order buffer identifier, the first memory subunit is to store a piece of information, related to a status of the load operation, in the status register. The processor also includes logic to, responsive to detection of retirement of the load operation, store memory information in memory-related fields of a record of a memory buffer. The memory information includes auxiliary information (AUX) and access latency information, wherein one of the auxiliary information or the access latency information includes the piece of information, from the status register, stored in a particular field of the memory-related fields.
Smart span prioritization based on ingestion service backpressure
Disclosed techniques relate to automatically instrumenting a web application. In an aspect, a method identifies that a web application includes an event that is triggered by a user interaction. The method associates the event with a tracer that is configured to log tracing information based on an execution of a first set of operations caused by the event and to obtain a first measurement of performance of a first span. The method identifies, in the code, that the execution of a first set of operations causes a request to be made to a server. The method associates the request with the tracer. The tracer is configured to log tracing information based on an execution of a second set of operations caused by the request and to obtain a second measurement of performance of a second span that is a child span of the first span.
