SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR FACILITATING EFFICIENT MANAGEMENT OF DATA STRUCTURES STORED IN REMOTE MEMORY

A system and method are provided for facilitating efficient management of data structures stored in remote memory. During operation, the system receives a request to allocate memory for a first part in a data structure stored in a remote memory associated with a compute node in a network. The system pre-allocates a buffer in the remote memory for a plurality of parts in the data structure and stores a first local descriptor associated with the buffer in a local worker table stored in a volatile memory of the compute node. The first local descriptor facilitates servicing future access requests to the first and other parts in the data structure. The system stores a first global descriptor for the buffer in a shared global table stored in the remote memory and generates a first reference corresponding to the first part, thereby facilitating faster traversals of the data structure.

An example method of virtualizing a hardware accelerator in a host cluster of a virtualized computing system includes: commanding, at an initiator host in the host cluster, a programmable expansion bus device to reconfigure as a virtual accelerator based on specifications of a hardware accelerator in a target host of the host cluster; executing, in the programmable expansion bus device, software to emulate the virtual accelerator as connected to an expansion bus of the initiator host; receiving, at the programmable expansion bus device, compute tasks from an application executing in the initiator host; and sending, to the target host, the compute tasks for processing by the hardware accelerator.

PCIE PERIPHERAL SHARING

A peripheral proxy subsystem is placed between multiple hosts, each having a root controller, and single root I/O virtualization (SR-IOV) peripheral devices that are to be shared. The peripheral proxy subsystem provides a root controller for coupling to the endpoint of the SR-IOV peripheral device or devices and multiple endpoints for coupling to the root controllers of the hosts. The peripheral proxy subsystem maps the virtual functions of an SR-IOV peripheral device to the multiple endpoints as desired to allow the virtual functions to be allocated to the hosts. The physical function of the SR-IOV peripheral device is managed by the peripheral proxy device to provide the desired number of virtual functions. The virtual functions of the SR-IOV peripheral device are then presented to the appropriate host as a physical function or a virtual function.

In at least one embodiment, a set is selected from alternate sets of directives associated with the group of targets, and the transaction is transmitted to the group of targets in accordance with the selected set.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DISTRIBUTED SUBSCRIPTION MANAGEMENT
20230222080 · 2023-07-13 ·

Methods, systems, and devices for providing computer implemented services using managed systems are disclosed. To provide the computer implemented services, the managed systems may need to operate in a predetermined manner conducive to, for example, execution of applications that provide the computer implemented services. Similarly, the managed system may need access to certain hardware resources (e.g., and also software resources such as drivers, firmware, etc.) to provide the desired computer implemented services. To improve the likelihood of the computer implemented services being provided, the managed devices may be managed using a subscription based model. The subscription model may utilize a highly accessible service to obtain information regarding desired capabilities (e.g., a subscription) of a managed system, and use the acquired information to automatically configure and manage the features and capabilities of the managed systems.
