Systems and methods for configuring a wheelchair

Systems and methods for configuring a wheelchair are provided. One embodiment of a method includes receiving a passenger-specific setting for the wheelchair, determining that a chair component of the wheelchair is removably coupled to a power base component, and in response to determining that the chair component and the power base component are coupled, communicating the passenger-specific setting to the chair component. In some embodiments, in response to receiving the passenger-specific setting, implementing the passenger-specific setting, where implementing the passenger-specific setting includes altering a physical property of the wheelchair.

Assist wheel

The disclosure provides an assist wheel including a wheel, a handrim, an elastic component, two contact components, a driving assembly, two film sensors. The wheel is configured to be rotatably disposed on a wheelchair frame. The handrim is disposed on the wheel and rotatable with respect to the wheel. Two opposite ends of the elastic component are respectively connected to the wheel and the handrim. The two contact components are respectively disposed on the wheel and the handrim. The driving assembly is configured to be fixed to the wheelchair frame. The two film sensors are disposed on the driving assembly and respectively pressed by the two film sensors. Each of the two film sensors is configured to generate a sensor value. The controller is configured to receive the sensor values from the two film sensors and signal the driving assembly.

Removable power assist for manual wheelchair

Disclosed is a device for converting a manual wheelchair into an electronic wheelchair is provided. The device includes a joystick, a communication unit, a motor, a retractable friction roller, an engagement unit and a power source. The joystick is operably connected to a communication unit. The communication unit is operably connected to a motor. The motor includes an axle connected to a rotor. The retractable friction roller is mounted on the axle. The roller is placed in contact with a wheel of a manual wheelchair. The engagement unit is attached to the manual wheelchair to detachably attach the friction roller and the wheel. The power source is operably connected to the motor and the joystick.

Vehicle wheel assembly

A disclosed vehicle wheel assembly includes a plurality of wheels, a plurality of rotary drive modules each having a respective rotation axis, and a plurality of rotatable arms, wherein each arm is arranged to extend radially from a rotation axis of a respective rotary drive module to couple the respective rotary drive module to a respective wheel. Each rotary drive module is operable to drive rotation of a respective rotatable arm about the rotation axis of the drive module, to thereby rotate a respective wheel about the rotation axis. A control module can sense stepped terrain, and control each rotary drive module to enable a vehicle to travel over the stepped terrain.

The user input device may be configured to send a signal for controlling a motor parameter. The wheelchair, in one embodiment, includes a caster wheel and a castor sensor configured to sense a caster angle. In one embodiment, a controller is configured to receive the signal for controlling the motor parameter and a signal from the caster sensor and to determine a first turn rate parameter of the wheelchair based upon the received signal from each of the input device and the caster sensor.

The inventive concept relates to an attaching and detaching type driving device, which is formed to be attachable and detachable to a manual wheelchair whose wheels are manually driven by a user, and to switch the manual wheelchair to an electric wheelchair that automatically drives wheels using power, and particularly, which is capable of being attached to and detached from the manual wheelchair regardless of shape or size of the wheelchair, being switched to the electric wheelchair, and supplying the electric wheelchair with low cost. The attaching and detaching type driving device includes a driving module mounted on each of both installation frames supporting both wheels in the wheelchair and putting rollers in close contact with the wheels to transfer a rotational force of the rollers to the wheels and a steering module controlling a drive of the driving module.

The wheel body has a wheel hub configured to be rotatably disposed on the wheel shaft. The battery holder includes a base and at least one first electrical connector connected to each other. The base is configured to be connected to the wheel shaft and disposed side by side to the wheel hub. The base has an outer surface facing away from the wheel shaft. The at least one battery module includes at least one battery storage and at least one second electrical connector. The at least one battery storage has an inner surface in contact with the outer surface of the base. The at least one second electrical connector is detachably mounted on the at least one first electrical connector.
