The invention enables digital music content to be downloaded to and used on a portable wireless computing device. An application running on the wireless device has been automatically adapted to parameters associated with the wireless device without end-user input (e.g. the application has been configured in dependence on the device OS and firmware, related bugs, screen size, pixel number, security models, connection handling, memory etc. This application enables an end-user to browse and search music content on a remote server using a wireless network; to download music content from that remote server using the wireless network and to playback and manage that downloaded music content. The application also includes a digital rights management system that enables unlimited legal downloads of different music tracks to the device and also enables any of those tracks stored on the device to be played so long as a subscription service has not terminated.
SONG SIMILARITY DETERMINATION
Aspects of the technology described herein use acoustic features of a music track to capture information for a recommendation system. The recommendation can work without analyzing label data (e.g., genre, artist) or usage data for a track. For each audio track, a descriptor is generated that can be used to compare the track to other tracks. The comparisons between track descriptors result in a similarity measure that can be used to make a recommendation. In this process, the audio descriptors are used directly to form a track-to-track similarity measure between tracks. By measuring the similarity between a track that a user is known to like and an unknown track, a decision can be made whether to recommend the unknown track to the user.
Device, method, and graphical user interface for presenting representations of media containers
A device receives a request to enroll in music sharing. After receiving the request, the device displays an enrollment user interface that includes concurrently displaying representations of a plurality of playlists created by a first user and privacy settings for the plurality of playlists. The privacy settings have default values. The enrollment user interface includes a first affordance that corresponds to a first playlist of the plurality of playlists, and a second affordance that corresponds to a second playlist of the plurality of playlists. The device receives one or more user inputs changing the privacy settings from corresponding default privacy settings to user-specified privacy settings. After completing enrollment, the device provides access to the plurality of playlists of the first user to other users with a predetermined relationship to the first user based on the privacy settings for the plurality of playlists.

The present invention relates to an information processing system, method, and program which are capable of presenting a more persuasive recommendation reason. When a music CD meeting a user's preference is selected by a server apparatus, a recommendation screen is displayed onto the display of the user apparatus. The detailed information 11 including the titles of the pieces of music included in the recommended music CD and a recommendation reason 12 are displayed on the recommendation screen. A comment on the music CD (recommended music CD), which is written by a certain music commentator, is used for the display of the recommendation reason 12. Out of the comment, the words that has served for the recommendation or the sentences including that word are underlined, etc., and thus is displayed more noticeably than the other words and sentences. The present invention can be applied to an apparatus which selects and presents an item meeting the user's preference.
