Hand propelled wheeled vehicle

A hand propelled wheeled vehicle, specifically a wheelchair, containing a pair of hand actuated, lever driven mechanisms to rotate the main wheels. The levers pivot around attachment points on the left and right sides of the vehicle chassis. The left lever actuates a frame responsible for contra-rotating two integral one-way clutches arranged on a drive shaft coupled to the left main wheel, with the right lever operating the right side mechanism in an identical fashion. The arrangements of the clutches utilize both the forward (pushing) and backward (pulling) stroke of the lever to rotate the main wheels forward. Steering and braking control is afforded through attachments integral to the hand grips of the right and left hand levers, respectively.

A wheeled personal mobility device for transporting a person, an electric motor for use with the personal mobility device, a splined connection, an electromagnetic braking system and a steering engagement mechanism. The wheeled personal mobility device may be embodied as a wheeled personal mobility aid. The wheeled personal mobility device is reconfigurable between at least three configurations.

WHEELCHAIR WHEEL LOCK SYSTEM
20240099914 · 2024-03-28 · ·

A wheelchair wheel lock system for a wheelchair having a wheel lock plate with a locking face. The system includes a control cable, a lock-pin, a remote actuator and a biasing member. The control cable operatively connects the lock-pin with the remote actuator. The lock-pin is positioned proximate the locking face and selectively engages and disengages with the locking face when urged by the actuator. The biasing member urges the lock-pin to disengage from the locking face.

ARTICULATED MOTOR SUPPORT FOR WHEELCHAIR

A motorization device for a wheelchair may have a positioning arm adapted to be connected to a frame of the wheelchair by at least one lockable joint. A motor block may be operatively connected to the positioning arm by at least one other lockable joint, the motor block including at least a motor and an output roller operatively coupled to the motor, the output roller configured to contact a wheel of the wheelchair to impart torque to the wheel. The positioning arm and the motor block collaborate to provide the motor block with an engaged configuration in which the motor block is configured to biasingly contact a wheel of the wheelchair, and a disengaged configuration in which the motor block is separated from the wheel of the wheelchair.

Gravity reactive braking systems for wheels
10492965 · 2019-12-03 ·

A gravity reactive braking system comprises a housing connected to a structural element of a manually powered wheeled unit; a guide wheel having a first sector of radially protruding elements positionable in drivable contact with a main wheel periphery, and a second sector with a circular periphery of a shorter radial length than the first sector; a plate configured with a cammed surface; a height adjustment unit; and a follower element connected to a brake assembly cable and pivotably mounted onto the housing, for movably engaging a plate periphery. The guide wheel is rotatable in a rotational direction opposite to the main wheel's rotational direction when the radially protruding elements are positioned in drivable contact with the main wheel periphery following suitable manipulation of the height adjustment unit, and is indexable a predetermined angle until a desired region of the guide wheel is in contact with the main wheel periphery.

MEDICAL SUPPORT APPARATUS

A medical chair includes a base, a seat, and a leg rest pivotally mounted relative to the seat and adapted to move between an extended position and a retracted position. The chair further includes a first actuator for tilting the seat with respect to the base, a second actuator for lifting the seat with respect to the base, and a leg rest actuator adapted to move the leg rest. The chair also includes a controller adapted to control the first and second actuators to move the seat between a first position and a second position such that the seat is both lifted and tilted at the same time as the seat moves from the first position to the second position, and wherein the controller is adapted to control the leg rest actuator such that the leg rest maintains a substantially constant orientation with respect to the floor.

Anti-rollback wheelchair device
10470953 · 2019-11-12 ·

A wheelchair anti-rollback device utilizes one-way roller clutches which incorporate a selectable free-rotation functionality such that the wheelchair user can select between anti-rollback and free-wheeling modes. The anti-rollback mode is of utility when the wheelchair user is propelling up ramps. The modal selection is by means of a knob positioned on the centerline rotation axis of the mechanism. The mechanism also included functionality that allows mode change from anti-rollback to free-wheeling to be made at any time, including while the chair is on an inclined ramp. The invention can incorporated into the hub of the rear wheels of a wheelchair or into the toggle mechanism of typically used to actuate parking brakes. When incorporated into a wheelchair, the invention gives the wheelchair user greater control and ease in ascending ramps.
