SUPPORT SYSTEM
A support system includes two cushions. The first cushion is divided into a plurality of bladders filled with a fluid, the bladders being connected by fluid interconnections. The second cushion is coupled to the first cushion. The second cushion is also divided into a plurality of bladders filled with a fluid, the bladders connected by fluid interconnections. When a force is applied to one of the plurality of bladders, a reactionary force is produced in a different one of the plurality of bladders in the same respective cushion.
Cushion for seating
A hybrid seating cushion made up of a cushion base and a cushion insert. The cushion base has a seating surface in which a void in or extending through the cushion base is formed. A cushion insert such as an air bladder or fluid sack is positioned within the void. A lip or upper surface around an opening in the void overhangs at least a portion of the cushion insert, thereby minimizing the size and corresponding negative effects of a transition area where the base and the insert overlap.
SEATING SYSTEM HAVING PRESSURE COMPENSATING FLUID WITH THERMAL CONDUCTION PROPERTIES
A seating system, particularly suited for personal mobility vehicles, such as wheelchairs, includes a seat cushion having pressure relieving properties and enhanced thermal conduction properties. The seat cushion includes a thixotropic fluid contained within a flexible envelope. The thixotropic fluid includes nanoparticles that enhance the thermal conduction properties of the seat cushion to increase heat transfer from a seated user to provide a reduced temperature sensory effect.
Assistive Wheelchair
An assistive wheelchair that provides stand-up capability, vertical height adjustment while seated, and independent toileting is disclosed. The assistive wheelchair includes a verticalization system to move the user from a sitting to a more vertical position by tilting the while maintaining the proper center of gravity through the use of actuators and multi-bar linkages. The verticalization system also allows the seat to move up and down without modifying its tilt angle in order to change the height of the seat. An opening system provides for transversal movement of the wheels, to increase the width of the base of the wheelchair in order to create a space wide enough between the wheels to fit over a lavatory. A trap door seat is also provided that is lowered and moved from under the wheelchair to provide an opening in the wheelchair main seat during toileting.
ADJUSTABLE SEAT CUSHION
A seat cushion assembly includes a base defining a leg support and a support portion recessed relative to the leg support, and an air pad assembly positioned on the recessed support portion, the air pad assembly including a plurality of independent air support zones that are configured to be separately inflated and deflated.
Patient monitoring systems and methods
Various implementations of a patient monitoring assembly may be useful in preventing pressure ulcers, monitoring of air cushion inflation, estimating physical activity and energy expenditure and managing body weight of a patient seated on the assembly. The patient monitoring assembly may be installed on a manual or powered wheelchair, for example, and continuously monitors and provides feedback to the patient and/or caregiver about whether the patient is engaging in pressure relief activities while seated on a cushion of the assembly, whether the patient's activities are in accordance with clinical guidelines for pressure relief, the amount of calories expended over a period of time and the weight and weight distribution of the patient seated on the assembly. The feedback may be provided in substantially real time via an interface on the wheelchair and/or via a remotely located computing device.
Seating system having pressure compensating fluid with thermal absorption and distribution properties
A seating system, particularly suited for personal mobility vehicles, such as wheelchairs, that includes a seat cushion having pressure relieving properties and enhanced thermal absorption properties. The seat cushion includes a thixotropic fluid contained within a flexible envelope. The thixotropic fluid includes a phase change material that enhances the thermal absorption properties of the seat cushion to increase thermal absorption from a seated user to provide a reduced temperature sensory effect. The thixotropic fluid further includes a thermal conduction medium that facilitates heat distribution to the phase change material.
FITTING SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MODULAR PRESSURE RELIEF CUSHION
A high-performance, low-cost modular cushion using range of novel dynamically responsive materials has been designed and developed for use in seating pressure relief. The use of individual contained spheres creates a localized area of gel to minimize both flattening under pressure, and inflating in areas without contact while the elastic nature of the polymers creates a durable system that recovers rapidly from deformation. Gel balls of varying densities have been developed to optimize performance. Quantification of individual ball mechanical properties has been completed which provides load-deflection curves to inform optimal ball array layout based on user interface pressure distributions. A fitting algorithm is proposed which will employ the patient's seating interface pressure distribution to design a personalized modular cushion layout which will evenly distribute contact pressure across seating support interface and maximize contact pressure area.
SEATING SYSTEM WITH USER MONITORING CAPABILITIES AND METHODS FOR MONITORING USER
A method for adjusting the pressure of one or more cushions in a human transport system is disclosed. The one or more cushions include a plurality of inflatable chambers and a plurality of pressure sensors associated with the cushions. The pressure sensors may be surface pressure sensors or chamber pressure sensors. A processor associated with the human transport system obtains pressure measurements from the plurality of pressure sensors. Based on the pressure measurements, the processor identifies one or more of the plurality of inflatable chambers whose pressure requirements adjustment. The processor then sends commands that cause the human transport system to adjust the pressure in the one or more inflatable chambers. Systems including cushions and processors are also disclosed.
BATHING APPARATUSES AND METHODS OF MAKING AND USING THE SAME
The apparatuses and methods of making and using the same are directed to bathing apparatus to support an object while bathing the object with a fluid. The bathing apparatus may comprise a support assembly constituting a support structure of the apparatus; a support surface to support the object, the support surface supported by the support portion; and a fluid catch disposed on at least three sides of the support surface, the fluid catch serving as a basin for the fluid in such manner to contain the fluid separate from the support surface.
