A powered wheelchair apparatus includes a chair component, a power base component and a wheelchair control system. The wheelchair control system includes a processor and a user input device communicatively coupled to the processor. A display is communicatively coupled to the processor. A memory module is communicatively coupled to the processor that stores logic that, when executed by the processor, causes the system to receive user instructions from the user input device and display a message on the display based on the user instructions. The display is on a back of the chair component.

A wheelchair configured to impart motion on one or more lower extremities of a user to inhibit inelasticity in joints of one or more lower extremities as a result of extended immobility, and to promote a more natural alignment of one or more upper extremities of the user during manipulation of the wheelchair. The wheelchair includes a seat and a backrest, at least two ground-engaging wheels, a hand mechanism assembly including a hand grip on each side of the wheelchair, and a foot mechanism assembly including a footrest on each of the wheelchair. When a force is applied to one of the hand grips, the wheels rotate for locomotion, and the foot mechanism assembly is actuated, causing the foot rest on the opposite side from the hand grip to move in an arced path, and vice versa, thereby imparting contralateral locomotion.

The robot includes a main body provided with a traveling wheel, a seat disposed above the main body, a backrest spaced apart from the seat, a link configured to connect the seat to the backrest, a first tilting mechanism embedded in the seat, the first tilting mechanism being configured to tilt the link with respect to the seat, and a second tilting mechanism embedded in the backrest, the second tilting mechanism being configured to tilt the backrest with respect to the link.

The mobility device is also configured to transform the frame into a rideable configuration that accepts a person.

The mobility aid device is driven in operation from a motor arrangement included in at least one of the main unit and the wheel arrangement, wherein the mobility device aid is propelled forwards or backwards and turned by the motor arrangement. The wheel arrangement includes two wheels mounted at lateral sides of main unit, wherein the two wheels are mutually independently driven in operation by the motor arrangement. The mobility aid device is self-balancing using the two wheels by employing a control module that controls an electrical signal applied to the motor arrangement, and the wheels are contained within an area that is less than 120% of a seating area of the seat arrangement.

Additionally, a planar cavity may be located in the body, intersecting perpendicularly the first and second keyhole-shaped openings, and open at least in part to the first side, for receiving at least partially therein a planar blade portion of the footrest bracket. Opposite the first side, cushioned second and front sides of the body are designed to be positioned toward the front of the wheelchair to protect a user's legs. The body may be symmetrical about a horizontal plane so that it can be flipped over and used on both left and right sides of a wheelchair. Methods of use are provided.

SEATING SYSTEM

The seating system may also be configured in a stored configuration in which the seating surface of the seat portion is generally parallel with and faces towards the support surface of the back portion. The seating system may also be configured in a recumbent position in which the seating surface of the seat portion is generally parallel and faces in the same direction as the support surface of the back portion.
