The system will save the records for each of the class-specific token specifications to a digital ledger that is accessible to users of the system. When a transfer request is received for a particular token, the system will execute a smart contract by (a) accessing the digital ledger to verify that a class-specific token specification exists which corresponds to the class of the particular token, and (b) in response to the verifying write, to the digital ledger, a first ledger entry that includes a record indicating that the amount of the particular token has been transferred to the recipient.
