Methods and systems for pattern-based authentication for payment transactions

Systems and methods for facilitating authentication for payment transactions using pattern-based time bound passwords. More specifically, techniques disclosed herein enable authentication of payment transactions performed by a user at a merchant terminal based on a pre-registered pattern provided by the user within a pre-defined time period limit. The pre-registered pattern drawn in the pre-defined time period is registered as a password for authenticating any payment transaction performed by the user using a payment card which is associated with an account of the user in an issuing bank. If the user provides the pre-registered pattern within the pre-defined time period limit, the payment transaction is authenticated. In another embodiment, such pattern-based time bound password is used as a second level authentication in which first level authentication is performed by a personal identification number.

An option is set on a payment card of a card issuer. A request for payment for a transaction is received by a payment server of the card issuer from a merchant device/server. The payment server requests and receives a one-time token based on the option. An authorization indicating payment was successful is sent from the payment server to the merchant device/server with a flag set, the token, and a network address. Merchant device/server identifies the flag obtains the token and sends an e-receipt for the transaction along with the token to the network address. The e-receipt accessible from the network address by a consumer associated with the transaction. Furthermore, the e-receipt is obtained by the consumer without registering personal information or contact information with the merchant, which preserves the anonymity of the consumer with respect to the merchant.

Methods are provided for authenticating an initiator of a transaction during processing of the transaction. Methods may include initiating a transaction, including transaction details, at a transaction initiation node. Methods may include transmitting the transaction to a processing entity. Methods may include identifying that the transaction is above a threshold of anomalous transactions based on historic transactions associated with the transaction details. Methods may include transmitting an authorization request from the processing entity to a payment card linked to the transaction details. Methods may include receiving the authorization request at the payment card. Methods may include approving and/or denying the authorization request at the payment card. Approving and/or denying the request may include input of a signature and/or biometric. Methods may include transmitting the approval and/or denial from the payment card to the processing entity. The processing entity may transmit the approval and/or denial to the transaction initiation node.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR CRYPTOCURRENCY ADMINISTRATION

Technologies are described herein for the administration of cryptocurrency. A currency transfer server is used to support the administration of a user wallet using a device capable of communicating via a cellular network. A coin transfer application receives instructions on how much cryptocurrency to send and the cellular number to which the cryptocurrency is to be sent. A temporary wallet is instantiated to receive the transfer, whereby the recipient receives a withdrawal code using a messaging application from the sender. Once received, the recipient can transfer the cryptocurrency from the temporary wallet to the recipient's wallet or use the temporary wallet as the permanent wallet.

In some examples, a mobile card reader includes a card interface to read information from a card, an interface to enable the mobile card reader to communicate with a mobile device, and a processor configured to send security related information of the mobile card reader to an application executing on the mobile device. The security related information may be for transmission by the mobile device to a remote server system. The mobile card reader may receive, from the application, an indication that the application has been validated by the remote server system based on validation of the security related information of the mobile card reader and security related information of the application. In response, the mobile card reader generates a secure session key with which to carry out encrypted communication between the application and the mobile card reader.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PROVISIONING A PAYMENT INSTRUMENT

The invention relates generally to the provisioning of payment instruments onto electronic devices such as a mobile telephone, tablet, laptop or wearable, and in particular to securely provisioning payment instrument for which authorisation for the provisioning must be provided by a payment instrument issuer. A first embodiment is provided in which data that is generated during module a transaction is received by an electronic device and transmitted controller from the electronic device to a server associated with an acquirer. The data received from the electronic device is compared to the data generated during the transaction and, if these match, provisioning is authorised. A second embodiment is provided in which a server associated with an acquirer generates an identification message that is separate from but based on a response message associated with a transaction, and provisioning is authorised or declined based on the identification message.

Mobile device payments

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for conducting cardless payment transactions. One of the methods includes receiving, in association with a payment transaction, a message from a customer device that includes data from an optical scan of a code displayed at a merchant point-of-sale. A request to authorize a payment for the payment transaction is received from a merchant computer. Customer and merchant accounts are identified and payment data previously associated with the customer account is accessed. The payment is authorized using the payment data, and notification of authorization is sent to the merchant device or customer device.

Embodiments of the invention include a method of performing a payment transaction comprising receiving transaction data by a PIN pad terminal from a point-of-sale terminal, and receiving tender from a customer, by the PIN pad terminal. Tender data and the transaction data are sent to a service gateway, by the PIN pad terminal. The service gateway collects metadata from the tender data and the transaction data. The tender data is sent by the PIN pad terminal to the point-of-sale terminal, which sends the tender data and the transaction data to a merchant gateway for approval or denial of the tender data. The tender data sent to the POS may be encrypted. The service gateway may provide customer and merchant analytics based on the metadata, as well as perform security/fraud checks, BIN management, PIN pad management. Systems are also disclosed.
