A patient support device includes a sheet configured to be placed beneath the patient in use and a plurality of straps connected to the sheet and configured for use in moving, lifting, turning, and/or positioning the patient. The straps may include one or more retractable straps that each have a stretchable retraction strap connected thereto and configured for retracting the retractable strap. The straps may also include one or more central support straps connected to the sheet in an area positioned between the legs of the patient. The sheet may also include a head support for supporting the patient's head, which head support may also include one or more straps. The straps may be connected to a hoist, which is then used to lift the patient.

A pumping apparatus includes a pump configured for moving air, a housing supporting and at least partially containing the pump, and an air output that includes a hose having a first end connected to the housing and in communication with the pump, such that the pump is configured to move air through the hose, and a second end configured for allowing air to exit the hose, wherein the hose has a length defined between the first and second ends. A switch is mounted on the hose and located along the length of the hose, and the switch is configured for controlling operation of the pump. The switch is located a distance from the second end of the hose that is less than 50% of the length of the hose.

A pumping apparatus includes a pump configured for moving air, a housing supporting and at least partially containing the pump, and an air output that includes a hose having a first end connected to the housing and in communication with the pump, such that the pump is configured to move air through the hose, and a second end configured for allowing air to exit the hose, wherein the hose has a length defined between the first and second ends. A switch is mounted on the hose and located along the length of the hose, and the switch is configured for controlling operation of the pump. The switch is located a distance from the second end of the hose that is less than 50% of the length of the hose.

A method of providing decision support in connection with a care recipient and a suite of care delivery devices which includes at least one adjustable system includes the steps of 1) receiving a command to effect a change to a parameter of the adjustable system, 2) assessing whether or not carrying out the command will result in one or more ramifications, and 3) if a ramification is identified, a) issuing a report related to the identified ramification, and b) complying with the command only if a confirmation is received subsequent to the assessing step.

The plurality of peripheral edges includes a head edge. The patient support device includes a head support connected to a portion of the head edge of the sheet, such that the head support extends outwardly from the sheet. The patient support device further includes one or more head support straps connected to the head support. The head support is configured to support a head of the patient when the one or more head support straps and the head of the patient are lifted.

A patient support includes a mattress with an inflatable bladder, where the inflatable bladder has a cavity and an upper bladder wall forming an outwardly facing side for facing and supporting the patient on the patient mattress and forming an inwardly facing side facing into the cavity. The patient support further includes a light transmitter operable to emit light through the cavity to impinge on the inwardly facing side of the upper bladder wall and a light receiver operable to detect a reflection of the light off the inwardly facing side of the bladder wall, with the light receiver generating a signal responsive to detecting the reflection. A controller is in communication with the light transmitter and is operable to determine immersion of a patient into the mattress based on the signal from the light receiver.

A pump apparatus includes a pump configured for moving air, a housing supporting the pump, and an air output hose in communication with the pump. The housing further includes a rest for retaining a portion of the air output hose. The rest forms a u-shape having two side walls and a valley therebetween.
