Ordering lottery tickets using mobile devices

A mobile application or mobile website allows a user of a mobile device to make player selections associated with the order of a lottery ticket. The mobile device then displays a machine-readable code image. When a lottery retailer scans the image, the code conveys the lottery ticket order to the retail system, allowing the retailer to sell lottery tickets corresponding with the order. The mobile application or website may record player selections for reuse, record purchased tickets to report lottery status to the player, and assist the player in locating a lottery retailer. Further, a lottery image ticket may be transmitted to the user's mobile device or to an account which can be accessed through the user's mobile device. The lottery image ticket can then be presented to the retailer equipment for winnings check and redemption.

An electronic wager based gaming system includes primary communication devices, a game administration server component, and a player account server component, all adapted to communicate with separate third party computing (i.e., player) devices, such as smart phones. The game administration component administers wager based game play on player devices and communicates game inputs and results therewith via primary communication devices. The player account component facilitates new player account creation by providing unique verification information to the player device (such as via display to the player) and facilitating the reception of player specific financial information from the player via a separate secondary communication device. This secondary device can involve a voice call with a human operator for the system, where the operator enters the new player information, which is then sent back to the player device via the primary communication device and confirmed by the player over the voice call.

The user input is transmitted from a mobile device. The method further includes, in response to detecting the user input, obtaining a virtual ticket from a third-party funding system external to a casino network. The virtual ticket was purchased, via the third-party funding system, from a ticketing server internal to the casino network. The virtual ticket is associated with a voucher identifier authorized by the ticketing server. The method also includes redeeming, using the voucher identifier, the virtual ticket. In response to redeeming the virtual ticket, the ticketing server transmits, via the casino network, a funding authorization for the amount of monetary value. The method further includes, in response to the receiving the funding authorization via the casino network, funding the gaming machine via funds transfer in the casino network.

Embodiments disclosed herein concern mobile gaming environments. Portable electronic devices can be supported by the mobile gaming environments. The locations of the portable electronic device can influence how the portable electronic devices operate or what services or features are available to the portable electronic device or their users. According to one embodiment, a mobile gaming system can concern gaming/betting opportunities that can be secured using a portable electronic device even when an individual is located in a location where betting or games of chance are not permitted.
