WEIGHING SYSTEM
20170249617 · 2017-08-31 ·

A weighing system according to an embodiment includes a scale that measures a total weight of one or more containers, each containing a commodity, placed on the scale. An image capturing sensor captures an image of the one or more containers and commodity information included on one or more of the containers. A processor calculates a weight of an unmeasured commodity included in the container on which no commodity information is included based on: the total weight measured by the scale, the determined weight of the container on which the commodity information is included and the commodity included therein, and the determined weight of the container on which no commodity information is included.

RETAIL STORE CHECKOUT SYSTEM AND METHOD
20170243186 · 2017-08-24 ·

A retail checkout system for allowing a plurality of customers to checkout one or more product items of at least one set of product items of a given type that has an estimated mean weight and deviation from the estimated mean weight associated with the set of product items, the system comprising: a retail checkout weight scale; and a checkout engine that is operative and configured to determine a mean anticipated cumulative weight and a distribution from the mean anticipated cumulative weight for at least one product item for which a customer initiated the acquisition of respective weight-information; determine a factual cumulative weight of the customer's shopping receptacle placed on the retail checkout weight scale of the retail checkout system; and determine whether the factual cumulative weight meets a checkout criterion with respect to the distribution from the mean anticipated cumulative weight.

INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEM, INFORMATION PROCESSING METHOD, AND NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER READABLE MEDIUM
20220309485 · 2022-09-29 ·

A point of sales (POS) system includes a terminal configured to, upon scanning of a commodity, acquire a code thereof, a server configured to, upon receipt of the code, register the code in association with a preset weight of the commodity, and a scale configured to measure a total weight of commodities in a cart. The terminal is configured to detect a decrease in the total weight and transmit an amount of the decrease to the server. The server is configured to, upon receipt of the amount, determine whether a commodity code associated with a matching weight value is already registered, and upon determining that the commodity code is already registered, issue a command that causes the terminal to display a screen through which inputs can be made for indicating that the commodity has been taken out or cancelling the registration of the removed commodity.

Detecting and preventing receipt printer jams

Disclosed are systems and methods for detecting a printer jam. The systems and methods can include receiving a reference image of a printer opening and a second image of the printer opening. A lack of a receipt between the second image compared to the reference image can be detected. The lack of the receipt can indicate the printer jam. After detecting the printer jam, operation of the self-service terminal can be terminated.

Information processing apparatus, information processing method, non-transitory computer readable medium storing program, electronic receipt system, and terminal device

An information processing system includes hardware, including a processor and a memory, an information processing apparatus and a terminal device. The information processing apparatus includes a receiving unit, a storing unit and a controlling unit. The receiving unit is implemented at least by the hardware and that receives, from a store terminal, information on merchandise purchased by a customer. The storing unit is implemented at least by the hardware and that stores at least one of a weight and a volume of the merchandise associated with the customer. The controlling unit is implemented at least by the hardware and that causes information including at least one of the weight and the volume of the merchandise purchased by the customer to be output as output information in response to a request from the external device. The terminal device requests the output information.

CHECKOUT SYSTEM, SETTLEMENT APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR EXECUTING SETTLEMENT PROCESSING
20170221317 · 2017-08-03 ·

A checkout system includes a plurality of settlement apparatuses and a registration apparatus. The registration apparatus includes a scanner, a storage unit, a communication interface, and a processor. The processor controls the scanner, the storage unit and the communication interface to identify a commodity corresponding to a scanned code, generate the settlement information, and transmit the settlement information to a selected one of the plurality of settlement apparatuses. The selected one of the plurality of settlement apparatuses determines, with respect to itself, whether a settlement processing is currently being performed and whether a settlement processing was completed within a preceding predetermined amount of time. Based on the determination, the selected one of the plurality of settlement apparatuses performs one of the settlement processing with respect to the received settlement information and transmission of the settlement information to another one of the plurality of settlement apparatuses.

PRODUCT ID ENHANCED OFF-PLATTER DETECTION SYSTEM
20220268623 · 2022-08-25 ·

An example product identification and weighing apparatus for use with a POS terminal includes a weigh platter; a scale configured to measure a weight of the item when placed on the weigh platter; an off-platter detection assembly configured to detect an off-platter condition; a product identification assembly configured to identify the item; a communication interface configured to communicate with the POS terminal; a processor in communication with the scale, the off-platter detection assembly, and the communication interface; and a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the object recognition and weighing apparatus to, responsive to detecting the off-platter condition, prevent a transmission of the identified item to the POS terminal until the off-platter condition is no longer detected.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR IDENTIFYING POTENTIAL SHOPLIFTING INCIDENTS
20170323359 · 2017-11-09 ·

Embodiments relate to systems and methods for identifying potential shoplifting incidents. In one embodiment, a system can receive and analyze information related to a number of items removed from a display and a number of items added to a shopping receptacle. These numbers of items can be detected by weight or load changes sensed by a sensor system, and if the counted numbers of items do not match, the system can flag nearby shopping receptacles via their unique identification numbers as potentially involved in shoplifting incidents.

ARRANGEMENT FOR, AND METHOD OF, PROCESSING PRODUCTS ASSOCIATED WITH RFID TAGS AND BAR CODE SYMBOLS AT THE SAME WORKSTATION
20170323128 · 2017-11-09 ·

A workstation has a metallic housing for supporting an electro-optical reader for reading bar code symbols. A radio frequency (RF) antenna of an RF identification (RFID) reader for reading RFID tags is mounted in a metallic container that is connected to the housing. The RF antenna radiates RF energy at a frequency greater than 900 MHz through RF excitation slots formed between the container and the housing.
