PATIENT SUPPORT APPARATUS WITH IMPROVED USER INTERFACE
A patient support apparatus, such as a bed, cot, stretcher, or the like, includes an exit detection system and/or a monitoring system that monitors a set of conditions of the patient support apparatus. A user interface of the exit detection system includes a first navigation control for navigating to a control screen for the exit detection system and a second navigation control for navigating to a control screen for the monitoring system. Each navigation control also functions as an automatic arming control, thereby causing the respective exit detection system and monitoring system to be armed. In this manner, a single touch of a navigation control implements the dual function of automatically arming the corresponding system and taking the user to a control screen for the corresponding system. The automatically armed system is armed using one or more preset settings or one or more settings customized to a particular patient.
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DETECTING A FALL OF A MOBILE USER TERMINAL
A method described and device to rapidly detect the accident-related removal of a mobile user terminal from a holder and to generate corresponding information which characterizes the fall or crash related to the accident. Rotation-rate sensor variables and acceleration variables of the mobile user terminal are acquired. A rotation or twisting of the mobile user terminal is detected in that the currently acquired and/or integrated rotation-rate sensor variables are compared to past values and/or threshold values. A movement of the mobile user terminal is detected on the basis of the currently acquired and/or integrated acceleration variables. A comparison with past values and/or threshold values may optionally also be carried out. The determination of an in particular accident-related crash of the vehicle and/or the fall of the mobile user terminal out of the holder then takes place due to the detected rotation and the detected movement.
Patient video monitoring systems and methods having detection algorithm recovery from changes in illumination
Various embodiments concern video patient monitoring with detection zones. Various embodiments can comprise a camera, a user interface, and a computing system. The computing system can be configured to perform various steps based on reception of a frame from the camera, including: calculate a background luminance of the frame; monitor for a luminance change of a zone as compared to one or more previous frames, the luminance change indicative of patient motion in the zone; and compare the background luminance to an aggregate background luminance, the aggregate background luminance based on the plurality of frames. If the background luminance changed by more than a predetermined amount, then the aggregate background luminance can be set to the background luminance, luminance information of the previous frames can be disregarded, and motion detection can be disregarded.
Hospital bed exit detection method and system
A method for detecting an exit of a patient from a hospital bed, the method comprising: detecting a presence of the patient on the bed, upon detection of the patient on the bed, monitoring an indication that the patient has moved from a predetermined patient area on a patient receiving surface of the bed to outside the predetermined patient area, upon detection that the patient has moved outside the predetermined patient area, activating a bed alarm to indicate to a user that an exit of the patient from the hospital bed has been detected, and after monitoring the indication that the patient has moved from the predetermined patient area and further upon receiving a pause command, suspending monitoring the indication that the patient has moved from the predetermined patient area. There is also provided a system for detecting an exit of a patient from a hospital bed.
Systems and methods for at-home monitoring of an individual
In one embodiment, a sensor unit includes an outer housing including a top plate and a base member that together define an interior space, the top plate being configured to directly receive and support the leg of the piece of furniture, a load cell provided within the interior space configured to measure forces imposed by the leg on the top plate, the load cell including a planar metal plate having a deformable element to which the top plate is mounted and a sensor element mounted to the planar metal plate at a location at which the deformable element extends from the remainder of the planar metal plate, and an internal platform provided within the interior space and associated with the base member that supports the planar metal plate of the load cell in a manner in which the deformable element of the planar metal plate is free to deform when a force is imposed by the leg on the top plate.
PATIENT SUPPORT APPARATUS WITH AUTOMATIC EXIT DETECTION MODES OF OPERATION
A patient support apparatus, such as a bed, cot, stretcher, etc., for supporting a patient includes an exit detection system with multiple user-selectable modes of operation that each have different sensitivity levels for triggering an exit alert. The exit detection system also includes one or more non-user selectable modes of operation that are automatically implemented in response to a triggering action. For example, a transition mode may be automatically implemented when the user attempts to switch from a first user-selectable mode to a different user selectable mode, or a motion mode may be automatically implemented when movement of one or more components of the patient support apparatus occurs. In the transition mode, the exit detection system may use a least restrictive sensitivity level. In the motion mode, the exit detection system may inhibit exit alerts and/or change the criteria for issuing the exit alert.
Patient care system with conditional alarm forwarding
A patient care system is disclosed that includes a medical device such as an infusion pump. The medical device generates a data message containing information such as the status of the therapy being delivered, operating data or both. An alarm generating system assesses the data message from the pump and generates an alarm message if certain conditions established by a first set of rules are met. The alarm message is assessed according to a second set of rules as to whether to suppress the alarm message. The data message contains a required input for both the first and second algorithms. A dispatching system is adapted to forward the alarm message to an alarm destination according to a third set of rules. The alarm destination expresses an alarm upon receipt of the alarm message.
ELECTRONIC DEVICE THAT PAUSES MEDIA PLAYBACK BASED ON EXTERNAL INTERRUPTION CONTEXT
An electronic device, computer program product, and method manage presenting and pausing of media content in response to remotely detected interruptions. The electronic device includes network interface(s) by which the electronic device communicatively connects to: (i) a media output device that presents media content; and (ii) external device(s) that is configured to detect an event that draws user attention. A controller of the electronic device is communicatively coupled to the at least one network interface and a user interface device. The controller presents, via one or more signals transmitted via the network interface(s), media content presented on the media output device. The controller monitors the external device(s). In response to receiving input indicating that at least one external device has detected an event, the controller pauses the presentation of the media content on the media output device and presents, on a user interface device, a notification of the event.
Systems and methods for managing smart devices based upon electrical usage data
Managing the operation of devices within a home or other property based upon electrical usage data. With customer knowledge or consent, a home controller may retrieve and analyze electrical usage data corresponding to a device, such as by comparing it to certain threshold data. If the analysis results in a trigger condition, the controller may generate a command, and transmit the command to the device for implementation, allowing modification of device operation to address any issues indicated in the electrical usage data. The controller may notify a home owner/occupant. As a result, faulty devices may be managed prior to their faults causing damage to the device and/or the property, and/or property owners may be timely prompted to investigate, repair, and/or replace a failing device. Insurance discounts may be provided based upon the risk mitigation/prevention functionality.
