The patient transfer acts as a combined sling and bed cover and includes a substantially rectangular sheet portion of a size to fit over a standard bed mattress and to which are attached a plurality of straps for coupling to a hoist. The patient transfer sheet is preferably made of a single-layered material which is breathable, strong and soft. The patient transfer sheet can act as a sling for transportation/repositioning of a patient as well as a replacement bed covering to replace conventional bed linen. The patient can thus be transported onto a bed without needing to remove the patient from the sling.

A modular drive device for driving a first driven module of a first emergency patient motion device or a second driven module of a second emergency patient motion device, the first driven module being different from the second driven module. The modular drive device comprises a motor, and an output device operatively coupled to and drivable by the motor. The output device transmits mechanical force from the motor to the first driven module when said output device is coupled to the first emergency patient motion device and from the motor to the second driven module when said output device is coupled to the second emergency patient motion device. The modular drive device further comprises a controller operable in a first motor mode and a second motor mode. The first motor mode corresponding to the first driven module, and the second motor mode corresponding to the second driven module.

A lift, a head support, and methods for use thereof for use with a surgical frame are provided. The lift and the head support can be used with the surgical frame that is capable of reconfiguration before, during, or after surgery. The surgical frame can include a main beam that can be rotated, raised/lowered, and tilted upwardly/downwardly to afford positioning and repositioning of a patient supported thereon, and the lift and the head support can be used in lifting the patient from a table/gurney and positioning the patient with respect to the main beam.

An apparatus for turning and positioning a patient includes a sheet having a top and a bottom surface, a first handle coupled to the sheet proximate a first side edge, and a second handle coupled to the sheet proximate a second side edge, opposite the first side edge. A first portion of the sheet is configured to be placed underneath a patient and a second portion of the sheet is configured to be wrapped on top of the patient. The first handle and the second handle are longitudinally offset such that when the first handle and the second handle are pulled across one another, the first side edge is positioned beneath the second handle and the second side edge is positioned beneath the first handle. Pulling the first handle across the second handle and across the top of the patient rolls the patient onto the second portion.

A patient support system includes a first section and a second section which can be removably coupled to the first section. The first section is configured for attachment to a positioning system, thereby providing an interface between the removable second section and the positioning system. A combined support surface is formed when the second section is coupled to the first section.

A support apparatus (e.g., stretcher, back board, etc.) with double roller assembly. The apparatus includes a main frame, a first housing containing at least one wheel (e.g., gear, pulley, sprocket, roller) around which a first sheet and/or a second sheet is coiled. The opposite ends of the sheets are coupled to vertically- and horizontally-displaced lead and trail rollers in the double roller assembly, one sheet for each roller. The apparatus further includes a second housing containing at least one wheel around which a chain or belt is disposed. One or both ends of the chain/belt is coupled to the double roller assembly. In operation, a patient is positioned within the main frame, and the sheets extend underneath the patient. The belt/chain mechanism can also help urge extension of the sheets. When the sheets are fully extended underneath the patient, the patient is fully supported and can be transported.

A patient transfer device and an associated method of transferring a patient using the device are described. The device, which can be used anytime a patient needs to be moved or transferred out of bed especially in those circumstances wherein the patient is in any way incapacitated and is unable to move or assist in the transfer, transfers the patient laterally from a longitudinal side of the bed onto the device. The transfer can be accomplished with minimal medical staff interaction and as such significantly and substantially reducing the risk or injury and harm not only for the patient but also the staff.

A system and method of lifting and positioning patients uses a patient's center of gravity for leverage to enable a caregiver to readily move a patient with less effort. The system includes a device with a tension sheet and tension rollers located at opposite ends of the device. The tension rollers are configured to increase tension in the tension sheet, which creates leverage to assist positioning of the patient. The patient lifting and positioning system aims to reduce injury risk for both the caregiver and any patient being assisted to lay down and sit up. Further, the system and method uses leverage to assist a patient lay flat on an exam table or bed from the sitting position to the laying position, and back to the sitting position with less effort.

A system using a motor, and a rolling tube or rod of sufficient strength to apply a pull force on one side of a sheet on the bed with the patient lying on the sheet to help pull up the patient on his bed or turn patients on his side, to make the patient comfortable. A slide-sheet used for pull-up has a slidable underside to reduce the friction. The sheets used comprise a plurality of loops on the sides to connect to pull straps. The loops to which the pull straps are connected are chosen to apply equal force to pull or turn the patient on the sheet. Patients having mobility issues have to be routinely pulled up or turned on their sides to make them comfortable and avoid formation of bed sores. The mechanized system disclosed enables a single care giver to handle these operations.
