Hip distraction

A hip distractor includes a pair of distractor members and a support configured to be fastened to a surgical table. The support includes at least two mounts for coupling to a pair of joints that couple the distractor members to the support. Another hip distractor includes a pair of distractor assemblies that are configured to apply a distraction load to a patient. Each of the assemblies includes a joint for coupling the corresponding assembly to a surgical table. The joint permits vertical and horizontal angular adjustment of the corresponding assembly. A method of distracting a hip includes coupling a patient's legs to a pair of distractor assemblies and simultaneously adjusting a vertical angle and a horizontal angle of at least one of the distractor assemblies.

The surgical platform assembly may provide an extension platform for the patient's lower arm, where the angle of the extension platform may be easily changed as needed or the entire extension platform easily removed, as desired.

The cradle is positioned about a patient in an un-inflated condition and inflated to define a self-supporting seat structure. The cradle may be formed in at least two separable parts which can be positioned about a patient and connected together prior to inflation. The cradle may be used in co-operation with apparatus which include rollers over which the inflated cradle is moved. Methods of handling a patient using the cradle are also disclosed.

A method of using a respiratory mask comprises providing a pillow having at least one recess, positioning a cover on the pillow so that the cover substantially follows the contours of the at least one recess, positioning a respiratory mask on the head of a user, and positioning the user's head on the cover and pillow such that the mask is received in the at least one recess so that the pillow and cover do not exert substantial pressure on the mask.

A patient positioning system for positioning a patient in the lateral decubitus position in preparation for a lateral approach spinal procedure. The patient positioning system includes a base section having a head bolster, an axillary bolster, and a hip bolster. The system also includes a lateral arm support configured to support the arms of the patient in a generally parallel position extending in the anterior direction away from the torso of the patient, and a leg bolster positionable between the legs of the patient and configured to support the legs of the patient and space the legs of the patient from one another.
