Disk drive arm actuator with piezoelectric ultrasonic motor
A data storage device includes a stack of data storage disks, a head stack assembly, and a piezoelectric motor. The head stack assembly includes an arm, a load beam, a head and a tail. The arm is configured for pivotal motion about a longitudinal axis of an actuator shaft. The load beam is attached to the arm. The head is attached to the load beam and is configured to interact with a surface of one of the disks, the surface defining an x-y plane. The tail is disposed on an opposite side of the actuator shaft from the arm and has a first engagement surface that is parallel to the x-y plane. The piezoelectric motor includes a piezoelectric element and a contact tip. The piezoelectric element comprises a first mounting surface. The contact tip is disposed at the first mounting surface and frictionally contacts the engagement surface.
Magnetic disk device
A controller of a magnetic disk device executes an integration operation each time a magnetic head passes through a servo sector during a write operation for a write target section of a first track among a plurality of tracks, so long as a positioning error amount in a servo sector that was most recently passed through by the magnetic head is within a range of an error threshold. The integration operation includes calculating an integrated offset amount by adding up positioning error amounts in two or more servo sectors including at least the servo sector that was most recently passed through by the magnetic head among all servo sectors that were passed through by the magnetic head during the write operation. The controller executes a protection operation for protecting data of a second track adjacent to the first track among the plurality of tracks based on the integrated offset amount.
DISK DEVICE
According to one embodiment, a disk device includes a magnetic disk, a ramp, a head stack assembly (HSA), and a housing. The ramp is rotatable between a first position covering a portion of the magnetic disk and a second position separated from the magnetic disk. The HSA is rotatable to a load position, an unload position, and a retracted position at which the HSA is separated from the magnetic disk. The ramp includes a first support portion that supports the lift tab when moving between the load position and the unload position at the first position, and a second support portion that supports the lift tab when moving between the unload position and the retracted position at the second position. The housing includes a first abutment portion that abuts the ramp at the first position to restrict rotation of the ramp.
MAGNETIC DISC DEVICE
According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device of an embodiment includes a rotary shaft, a shroud, and a damper. The rotary shaft rotates the plurality of disks. The shroud surrounds at least a part of the disk along the outer edge of the disk with a space from the outer edge of the disk. The damper is provided on a downstream side of the shroud with respect to a flow between the disks induced by rotation of the disks, and the damper has a portion intersecting with the flow and a portion along the flow.
Hard disk drives with piezoelectric ultrasonic motor
An apparatus includes a linear actuator assembly with a rail, a carriage, and a piezoelectric actuator. The carriage is coupled to the rail such that the carriage is movable with respect to the rail, and the piezoelectric actuator is configured and arranged to cause the carriage to move linearly between ends of the rail.
