A plurality of frames are attached to the base frame. Each frame in the plurality of frames includes a plurality of tape slots. A tape cartridge is stored in a tape slot. An x-y-z movement system is connected to the base frame and the plurality of frames. A wireless network is connected to the base frame.
Apparatus, system, and method for deploying data center modules
A data-center-module deployment apparatus may include a gantry robot adapted to move a sliding element parallel to a face of an information technology rack, where the face of the information technology rack exposes information technology device modules stored by the information technology rack. The apparatus may also include at least one track that is coupled to the sliding element and that extends away from the sliding element and toward the face of the information technology rack. In addition to the track(s), the apparatus may include an engaging element that is adapted to move along the track(s) and to engage with one or more of the information technology device modules stored by the information technology rack, such that the engaging element is adapted to insert into the information technology rack and remove from the information technology rack one or more of the plurality of information technology device modules.
Moving cartridges within a shuttle complex
The present description is directed to moving a cartridge including a storage medium within a shuttle complex that includes numerous shuttle connections, and a plurality of library strings connected by at least one shuttle connection. Each shuttle connection has a car able to move within the shuttle connection and each library string has at least one cartridge including a storage medium. The shuttle complex identifies a library string that contains the access-cartridge (LSAC), identifies whether there is a drive within the LSAC that has a second cartridge mounted therein which comprises only inactive data chunks, removes the second cartridge from the drive within the LSAC if an elapsed time since the drive within the LSAC most recently accessed the second cartridge exceeds a predetermined time period threshold, and mounts the access-cartridge to the drive within the LSAC.
Selective arrangement of media in a storage system
A computer-implemented method, according to one embodiment, includes: maintaining a reference count and an access count for each of a plurality of objects stored in an optical media storage system, using the reference count and access count to create a popularity metric for each of the plurality of objects, for each medium having one or more of the plurality of objects, creating a medium popularity metric based on the popularity metrics of the one or more objects on the respective medium, and using the medium popularity metric of each respective optical medium to arrange the optical media in the optical media storage system. Other systems, methods, and computer program products are described in additional embodiments.
Mounting a smartphone to robotic accessor of automated data storage library
According to one embodiment, a method for mounting a wireless capture device to an accessor to capture images of an operation in a data storage library includes mounting a bracket to the accessor, where the accessor is configured to transport data storage cartridges in a library environment. Moreover, the bracket is configured to receive a wireless image capture device therein, and the bracket is mounted in a position to orient the wireless image capture device to capture images while the accessor is transporting data storage cartridges.
Reservation-based management of movable components
Techniques for management of movable devices are disclosed. A system receives a request for an operation associated with a position on a rail. The system selects a component on the rail to execute the operation. The system identifies a rail segment that extends from the component's initial position to the position associated with the operation. The system requests a reservation of that rail segment. If the reservation is obtained, then the system applies electrical signals to move the component along the rails segment to the rail position associated with the operation. The system may also identify one or more other components, physical cells, etc. to reserve, in order to complete the operation.
MOUNTING A SMARTPHONE TO ROBOTIC ACCESSOR OF AUTOMATED DATA STORAGE LIBRARY
According to one embodiment, a computer-implemented method for remotely controlling a capture of images of a data storage library during operation thereof with a bracket on an accessor includes pairing a remote controller to a wireless image capture device that is coupled to a bracket mounted on an accessor, instructing the wireless image capture device to start recording images of the data storage library during operation thereof, including movement of the accessor, and thereafter, instructing the wireless image capture device to stop recording images of the data storage library during operation thereof.
MOVABLE CLOSED-CHAIN LINKAGE FOR ROBOT ARM OF MEDIA ELEMENT STORAGE LIBRARY
Utilities (e.g., systems, apparatuses, methods) that reduce robotic assembly contention in media element storage libraries by rotating (e.g., flipping, swinging, etc.) a robot arm of a first robotic assembly mounted over a first of first and second spaced storage arrays in a storage library into a first position between the first storage array and a central reference plane disposed between and parallel to the first and second storage arrays to allow a robot arm of a second robotic assembly to slide or otherwise move past the robot arm of the first robotic assembly (e.g., in a direction along or parallel to an x-axis parallel to the first and second storage arrays), even when the robot arms of the first and second robotic assemblies are disposed at the same height (e.g., along a z-axis that is perpendicular to the x-axis) within the storage library.
