Removable disk clamp for read-write device in archival data storage library
A removable disk clamp assembly for mounting disk media on a motor-driven spindle of a magnetic read-write device includes a disk clamp and a mechanism for generating a predetermined force to press the disk media to a flange of the spindle such that the predetermined force can be repeatedly overcome by an applied counterforce to remove the disk clamp from engagement with a hub of the spindle. Such a mechanism may include a spring-loaded removable disk clamp assembly or a magnetic removable disk clamp assembly, and whereby a vacuum-driven chuck may be employed for disk and clamp handling purposes, all of which are suitable for implementation and use in a read-write device configured for use in an archival data storage system library such as in a cleanroom storage system.
Disc device
A disc device includes a first traverse chassis holding a first optical pickup unit which performs recording/reproduction of information on a first surface of a disc, a second traverse chassis holding a second optical pickup unit which performs recording/reproduction of information on a second surface of the disc, and first and second biasing members which bias the first and second traverse chassis, respectively, in directions of coming closer to each other. The first and second traverse chassis are coupled to each other so as to turn around a turning axis at a rear side of a housing and extending in a width direction of the housing. At least one of the first and the second biasing members is attached while being inclined with respect to each of a conveying direction of the disc, and a thickness and the width directions of the housing.
DISC GRIPPER FOR STORAGE DISC
An apparatus includes a first jaw device, a second jaw device, and a disc sensor configured to sense presence of a storage disc between the first jaw device and the second jaw device. The first jaw device and the second jaw device form a gripper device configured to clamp a particular portion of a storage disc including an arc segment along an outer edge of adjacent surfaces of the storage disc.
Disc gripper for storage discs
An apparatus includes a motor configured to drive a driving element within a housing. A caliper is connected to the housing and configured to force a first jaw device toward a second jaw device based on movement of the driving element. A disc sensor is configured to sense presence of a storage disc and to limit insertion travel of a storage disc between the first jaw device and the second jaw device. The first jaw device and the second jaw device form a gripper device configured to clamp a particular portion of a storage disc.
Clamp member and hard disk drive device
A clamp member is a disk-shaped member configured to fix a recording disk to a rotating part of a spindle motor. The clamp member includes a clamp lower surface, a plurality of first through holes, and a plurality of second through holes. The clamp lower surface is provided in an outer edge region of the clamp member, contacts an upper surface of the recording disk, and applies a downward force to the upper surface. The first through holes are provided at a first interval in the circumferential direction in a first region at an inner side in the radial direction from the outer edge region, and fastening members to be fastened to the rotating part are inserted into the first through holes. The second through holes are provided at a second interval in the circumferential direction in a second region at the inner side in the radial direction from the first region, and the fastening members are inserted into the second through holes.
Debris reducing disk clamp for disk drives
A disk clamp for clamping a plurality of disks within a disk drive has a single fastening hole located at its symmetrical center sized to pass the shaft of a screw having a head diameter larger than the fastening hole. The screw fastens the disk clamp to a motor hub supporting the plurality of disks. The disk clamp has a moat around the fastening hole, at a maximum diameter that is smaller than the head diameter of the head on the fastening screw. The moat may be circular, have spike trenches angled toward the fastening hole, or be spiral. The diameter of the spiral moat decreases in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction toward the fastening hole. The midsection of the disk which the screw head covers is biased at a negative angle toward the fastening hole forcing particles generated during assembly toward the fastening hole of the disk clamp.
