A recording and reproducing device includes: a reading unit that reads production information from a recording medium of a magnetic tape cartridge, the magnetic tape cartridge including a magnetic tape, and the recording medium other than the magnetic tape and on which the production information is recorded, the production information being information regarding the magnetic tape obtained in a production process of the magnetic tape cartridge; and a control unit that performs, as an initialization process of the magnetic tape cartridge, control of recording the production information on the magnetic tape and invalidating the production information in the recording medium.

The present disclosure provides an optical disk device capable of reproducing data recorded on a high linear density optical disk stably. The optical disk device according to the disclosure is characterized by being equipped with a recording expected waveform generation circuit which generates, at the time of recording, an expected waveform that is expected to be obtained at the time of decoding; and a recording pulse generation circuit which generates a recording pulse for driving a laser with power and a time width suitable for an amplitude value of the recording expected waveform for each sampling point of the recording expected waveform.

According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a disk having a first region to which data is written by normal recording and a second region to which data is written by shingled recording, a head configured to write the data to the disk and read the data from the disk, and a controller configured to, when first data and second data is to be sequentially written to a third region of the second region, reserve a fourth region corresponding to the first data and the second data in the first region, write the first data to the fourth region, write the second data after the first data in the fourth region, and sequentially write the first data and the second data read from the fourth region to the third region.

According to one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a disk, a head which writes data to the disk and reads data from the disk, and a controller which increases a first recording density of data to be written to a first sector having a first overwrite in the first sector and reduces a second recording density of data to be written to a second sector having a second overwrite different from the first overwrite, on a first track of the disk.

The present disclosure, in various aspects, describes technologies and techniques for use by a data storage device that includes a controller of a non-volatile memory (NVM). In one example, the controller applies a default storage format to a storage region of the NVM, the default storage format configuring the storage region as a number of distinct storage regions logically arranged along a horizontal dimension and a vertical dimension. The controller modifies the default storage format using a combination of horizontal dimension scaling and vertical dimension scaling based on a performance capability of the storage region to obtain a modified storage format. The controller applies the modified storage format to the storage region.

In one embodiment, a magnetic disk device includes a disk with a recording surface, and a head. The recording surface includes a first area including a plurality of track groups in each of which data is recorded while a part of the data is overlappingly recorded, a second area provided separately in an outer circumference side from the first area, and including a plurality of track groups different from the first area in each of which data is recorded while a part of the data is overlappingly recorded, and a third area adjacent to the first area and the second area in a radial direction, and including a plurality of tracks which are arranged at a prescribed interval between the tracks. The head overlappingly records the data in the track groups of the first area in an order from the track locating at a center side to the track locating at the circumference side, and overlappingly records the data in the track groups of the second area in an order from the track locating at the circumference side to the track locating at the center side.

According to one embodiment, a magnetic recording apparatus measures and stores recording signal quality of a disk at an initial stage, inspects the recording signal quality before data is recorded, determines whether or not the recording signal quality obtained in the inspection satisfies a standard when compared to the stored recording signal quality at the initial stage, adjusts, based on a result of the determination, light irradiation power of a light irradiation element so as to satisfy the standard, determines a read offset amount based on a result of the adjustment, and performs control so that a position of a read head is shifted based on the determined read offset amount.
