Media identifier generation for camera-captured media

A video identifier uniquely identifying a video captured by a camera is generated. The video includes video frames and optionally concurrently captured audio as well as video metadata describing the video. Video data is extracted from at least two of the video's frames. By combining the extracted video data in an order specified by an identifier generation protocol, an extracted data object is generated. The extracted data object is hashed to generate the unique media identifier, which is stored in association with the video. The identifier generation protocol may indicate the portions of the video data to extract, such as video data corresponding to particular video frames and audio data corresponding to particular audio samples. The extracted data object may include a size of particular video frames, a number of audio samples in the video, or the duration of the video, for example.

Techniques to bias video thumbnail selection using frequently viewed segments

Techniques for intelligently biasing video thumbnail selection to popular segments of the video file are provided. In one aspect, a method of selecting video thumbnails used to represent a video file is provided. The method includes the steps of: (a) acquiring trending data from viewers related to the video file; (b) using the trending data to identify one or more segments of the video file that are popular among the viewers; and (c) adapting a selection of the video thumbnails used to represent the video file to the segments identified in step (b).

Archiving broadcast programs
09723249 · 2017-08-01 · ·

A system for receiving and presenting broadcast programming has a television receiver connected to a set-top box having an internal hard disc on which selected programs may be recorded. As the internal hard disc has a finite capacity it can become full, particularly if the viewer wishes to retain a library of recordings. The system provides for the automatic transfer of programs stored on the internal hard disc to external hard drives. The viewer is enabled to set the criteria for such archiving using the remote control unit and on-screen menu options. Content with the largest size, the earliest recorded content, or the content viewed less frequently, may be automatically archived. The set-top box is also enabled to collate information identifying the externally stored content and to store that on the internal hard drive together with information as to the location of the stored content. This enables a viewer to retrieve the transferred content.

Systems and methods for categorizing motion events

The various embodiments described herein include methods, devices, and systems for categorizing motion events. In one aspect, a method is performed at a camera device. The method includes: (1) capturing a plurality of video frames via the image sensor, the plurality of video frames corresponding to a scene in a field of view of the camera; (2) sending the video frames to the remote server system in real-time; (3) while sending the video frames to the remote server system in real-time: (a) determining that motion has occurred within the scene; (b) in response to determining that motion has occurred within the scene, characterizing the motion as a motion event; and (c) generating motion event metadata for the motion event; and (4) sending the generated motion event metadata to the remote server system concurrently with the video frames.

File producing method, file producing device, and recording medium

A method according to one aspect of the present disclosure includes the steps of: acquiring a play list including identification information indicating each of a plurality of elementary streams; selecting an elementary stream indicated by predetermined identification information from the acquired play list; acquiring a difference file including data that is not included in the selected elementary stream; and converting the selected elementary stream into an MP4 file format by combining data included in the difference file and data included in the selected elementary stream based on a manifest file corresponding to the selected elementary stream, the manifest file being necessary for the conversion of a file format based on a predetermined rule.

Frame selection of video data

A system and method for selecting portions of video data from preview video data is provided. The system may extract image features from the preview video data and discard video frames associated with poor image quality based on the image features. The system may determine similarity scores between individual video frames and corresponding transition costs and may identify transition points in the preview video data based on the similarity scores and/or transition costs. The system may select portions of the video data for further processing based on the transition points and the image features. By selecting portions of the video data, the system may reduce a bandwidth consumption, processing burden and/or latency associated with uploading the video data or performing further processing.

METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR CREATION, DISTRIBUTION, ASSEMBLY AND VERIFICATION OF MEDIA
20170325006 · 2017-11-09 · ·

A method and apparatus for creation, distribution, assembly and verification of media, including one embodiment, media is transmitted to a receiver where the receiver assembles the media into programming. In another embodiment, media is transmitted to the receiver from a plurality of sources. In a further embodiment, a source of media performs a tagging operation to associate sets of tags with elements of the stream of media. In various embodiments, different combinations of look-and-feel, content and other tags are associated with the media stream. In an additional embodiment, tagging of the media stream is performed at the receiver. A user at the receiver may also provide data about the user to the receiver. In yet another embodiment, the receiver uses the tags to assemble the media into a program. In still further embodiments of the invention, various Royalty Only Aggregate Revenues or “ROAR” models and apparatus are disclosed.
