Systems and methods are described for presenting content with time-based metadata. Methods may comprise transmitting the time-based metadata to a playback device. The time-based metadata may comprise a plurality of time stamps that are triggerable at different points of a timeline of content and one or more of the time stamps may be associated with corresponding metadata content. The playback device may trigger a sequence of time stamps of the time-based metadata and the triggered sequence of time stamps may be synchronized with the occurrence of one or more events in the timeline of the content.

The present technology relates to a reproduction device, a reproduction method, and a program which are capable of transferring information about a color gamut and a dynamic range of luminance of a content recorded in a recording medium to a display device.

A reproduction device of the present technology includes: a readout unit configured to read out, from a recording medium recording a content, a file of a video stream and a file of reproduction management information used for reproducing the video stream and including monitor information indicating at least one of a color gamut and a dynamic range of luminance of a master monitor used for authoring the video stream; a decoding unit configured to decode the video stream; and an output unit configured to control an output of video data obtained by decoding the video stream and the monitor information included in the reproduction management information to a display device, depending on a performance of the display device to which the content is output. The present technology can be applied to a player that reproduces a content.

A display device is provided that comprising circuitry configured to transmit, to a reproduction device, an extended display identification data (EDID) that includes the display information representing a performance of the display device. The circuitry further receives HDR video data from the reproduction device including HDR information that includes brightness characteristic information in frame data when the display information includes information representing a display performance of the HDR video, contains the EDID containing information of a 4k resolution or higher, displays an image of the received HDR video data in accordance with brightness designated by the HDR information, and adjusts a brightness of the image of the received HDR video data to a brightness capability for the display of the image.

A decoding system decodes a video stream, which is encoded video information. The decoding system includes a decoder that acquires the video steam and generates decoded video information, a maximum luminance information acquirer that acquires maximum luminance information indicating the maximum luminance of the video stream from the video stream, and an outputter that outputs the decoded video information along with the maximum luminance information. In in a case where the video stream includes a base video stream and an enhanced video stream, the decoder generates base video information by decoding the base video stream, an enhanced video information by decoding the enhanced video stream, and generates the decoded video information based on the base video information and the enhanced video information, and the outputter outputs the decoded video information, along with the maximum luminance information.

A decoding method of a video stream, which is encoded video information. The video stream includes a base video stream, and an enhanced video stream, which is a video stream to enhance luminance of the base video stream, and a describer that contains the combination information of the base video stream and the enhanced video stream. The decoding method includes acquiring the describer, and identifying the combination of the base video steam and the enhanced video stream. The decoding method also includes generating base video information by decoding the base video stream, generating enhanced video information by decoding the enhanced video stream, generating decoded video information based on the base video stream and the enhanced video stream, and outputting the decoded video information.

A playback device and playback method are provided for reading out and playing content from a recording medium in which are recorded a video stream that is encoded video information, map information, and bitrate information of the video stream. The map information includes playback start time information, start position information, and size information. The playback method includes reading out the map information and the bitrate information, and determining the stipulated data size in accordance with the bitrate information. The playback method also includes acquiring the picture from the video stream based on the result of the determination, and the start position information and the size information included in the map information that has been read out. The method further includes decoding and playing the acquired picture, wherein the stipulated data size differs between 2K resolution of the video stream and 4K resolution of the video stream.

The present technology relates to a reproduction device, a reproduction method, and a recording medium that enable content having a wide dynamic range of brightness to be displayed with an appropriate brightness. A recording medium, on which the reproduction device of an aspect of the present technology performs reproduction, records coded data of an extended video that is a video having a second brightness range that is wider than a first brightness range, brightness characteristic information that represents a brightness characteristic of the extended video, and brightness conversion definition information used when performing a brightness conversion of the extended video to a standard video that is a video having the first brightness range. The reproduction device outputs data of the extended video after adding frame information including the brightness characteristic information to frame data when information acquired from a display device that is to be an output destination of the video includes information representing a display performance of the extended video, and when no information representing the display performance of the extended video is included, outputs the data of the standard video. The present technology can be applied to a player that reproduces content.

At least one video stream that is encoded video information, and a management information file indicating attributes relating to the entire recording medium, are recorded in a recording medium. The management information file includes attribute information indicating whether the dynamic range of luminance of an initial video stream, which is played first out of the at least one video stream when the recording medium is inserted into a playback device, is a first dynamic range, or a second dynamic range that is broader than the first dynamic range.

At least one video stream that is encoded video information, and a management information file indicating attributes relating to the entire recording medium, are recorded in a recording medium. The management information file includes attribute information indicating whether the dynamic range of luminance of an initial video stream, which is played first out of the at least one video stream when the recording medium is inserted into a playback device, is a first dynamic range, or a second dynamic range that is broader than the first dynamic range.

The present technology relates to a reproduction device, a reproduction method, and a recording medium capable of displaying graphics with a broader dynamic range of luminance and appropriate brightness. An optical disc records STN_table associating HDR graphics, which are graphics having a second luminance range different from and broader than a first luminance range, with tone_mapping_info including HDR information indicating a luminance characteristic of the HDR graphics and tone_mapping_info, which is tone mapping definition information used when luminance conversion from the HDR graphics to STD graphics which are graphics having the first luminance range is performed, the HDR graphics, and the tone_mapping_info. The present technology is applicable to a recording medium recording graphics.
