The treatment system might also comprise an eye pad comprising a heat-retaining material and sized to be applied to an eyelid of a user when warmed. The eye pad could be gel-filled.

A method and apparatus for massage therapy is described. The method may include using the apparatus to apply heat and pressure to a subject's body. The apparatus may include a handle, a stem connected to the handle, a pusher tip connected to the stem, and an electric heating element configured to increase the temperature of the pusher tip. A handheld device for applying mechanical vibration to a body portion of an individual to treat a dry eye condition of the individual, includes: a housing; a member having a first portion accommodated in the housing, and a second portion that is moveable relative to the housing, wherein the second portion is for placement outside the individual, and is configured to oscillate to apply the mechanical vibration to the body portion, the member having an elongated configuration; and a motor in the housing, the motor configured to oscillate the member at an oscillation frequency sufficient to induce tear production when the second portion of the member is applied towards a surface of the body portion.
