The system further includes a sampling probe, a second flow meter, a first valve, and a leak detection module. The sampling probe provides exhaust gas to the first flow path at a location downstream from the first flow meter. The second flow meter measures a second mass flow rate in the first flow path at a location downstream from the sampling probe. The first valve regulates exhaust gas flow from the sampling probe to the second flow meter. The leak detection module detects a leak in the system based on measurements of the first and second mass flow rates taken when the first valve is closed.

The flow control module is configured to adjust the rate of the dilution gas flow in the radial direction based on at least one of a concentration of pollutant particles in the exhaust gas, a size of pollutant particles in the exhaust gas, a concentration of a gaseous emission in the exhaust gas, a type of fuel combusted by an engine producing the exhaust gas, and a rate of fuel flow to cylinders of the engine.

The exhaust sampling system may also include a controller that permits flow of the exhaust gas from the sample probe to the at least one collection bag in a first state and prevents flow of the exhaust gas from the sample probe to the at least one collection bag in a second state. The controller may determine an extraction rate of the sample probe based on an ON time of the engine during a test phase.
