Systems and methods for damage detection

A system for detecting damage to a glass surface particularly vehicle glazing panels such as vehicle windscreens. The system uses a sensor unit disposed proximate the surface and a processor in communication with the sensor unit. The processor is configured to analyse data received from the sensor unit in order to determine the integrity of the surface and a communication unit is configured to output a signal in response to the processor determining that the surface has been damaged. For vehicle glass the system is preferably integrated into the vehicle management and control systems such that the system is active when the vehicle is active or moving. The management and or control system may monitor for instances or situations when changes, such as above threshold changes, occur in order to produce an output warning signal.

Method and device determining soiling of a shield

A device comprises a housing, a detector for receiving solar irradiance and for providing a detector signal providing an indication of an amount of solar irradiance received by the detector and a shield transparent to at least part of the solar irradiance to be detected, the shield and the housing providing a detector space for housing at least part of the detector. The device further comprises a first light source for emitting light to the shield and a first light sensor arranged to receive light from the first light source, arranged to provide a first signal providing an indication for an amount of light received by the first light sensor. Particles will and reflect light back to the detector space. The reflected light is received by the light sensor. Hence, a signal generated by the sensor is an indication for pollution of the shield.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MEASURING A SURFACE IN CONTOURED GLASS SHEETS

An optical inspection system is provided for an ultraviolet laser and associated optics forming a planar laser sheet directed to a glass sheet. The planar laser sheet intersects a surface of the glass sheet thereby causing the surface of the glass sheet to fluoresce and form a visible wavelength line on the surface. A camera has an image sensor for detecting the visible wavelength line. A control system in configured to receive image data indicative of the visible wavelength line, analyze and triangulate the data to determine a series of coordinates associated with the line, and create a three-dimensional map of the surface of the glass sheet as a function of the series of coordinates. Methods for using an optical inspection system, for gauging a surface using an optical inspection system, and for providing optical reflectance information tor a surface using an optical inspection system are also provided.

Dynamic backlighting system and method for inspecting a transparency

An inspection system for detecting optical defects in a transparency includes a first rounded array of first elongated light elements, and a second rounded array of second elongated light elements. The second rounded array is positionable radially outboard of the first rounded array. The inspection system further includes a light-element-moving system configured to radially translate at least the first elongated light elements. The inspection system also includes an image recording device positionable on a side of the transparency opposite the first and second rounded arrays and configured to record images of the transparency during radial translation of at least the first elongated light elements during backlighting of the transparency. The inspection system includes a processor configured to analyze the images recorded during radial translation of at least the first elongated light elements, and detect optical defects in the transparency based on analysis of the images.
