The device can therefore simultaneously measure the pressure applied by the probe and the distance travelled by the tip of said probe (i.e. the displacement achieved). The device can be included in a system, which receives the data from the aforementioned sensors, and the patient's perceived pain value on a scale of 1-10. These values can be analyzed over time (i.e. over multiple applications of the device) to permit the examiner to use the data obtained to assess potential changes in the level of pain or discomfort and/or amount of healing of the patient.

A smart walking assistance device with a walker frame having generally vertical sides and an intersecting front. Wheels located at both ends of a bottom edge of the sides. A soft robotic sensing handle extends in a C shape along the upper edges of the sides and front. The sensing handle has multiple contiguous air filled chambers, each containing a pressure sensor for producing a pressure signal representing the pressure within the chamber. A microcontroller unit receives the pressure signals from the pressure sensors of the handle chambers and determines the status of at least one of the device and a user of the device based on the pressure signals. A stabilization mechanism is driven by the microcontroller so as to stabilize the walker in response to the determined status of at least one of the walker and the user.

The controller establishes a target temperature setpoint for the mode and receives a current water temperature. The controller determines whether the overshoot setpoint plus target temperature setpoint is greater than the current water temperature, and determines an error based thereon. The controller determines if the error is less than or greater than a target for the mode, and, based on this determination, determines a heater modulation rate for the mode taking into account the mode, maximum heater output, and available fuel supply. The controller controls the heater to operate at the determined modulation rate.
