Method for postural independent location of targets in diagnostic images acquired by multimodal acquisitions and system for carrying out the method
A method for postural independent location of targets in diagnostic images acquired by multimodal acquisitions, compensating for deformation of soft tissues due to changing posture, includes generating a transition of a digital image of the inside of a target region from a first to a second position by correlating the position of markers placed on the external surface of the target region in a digital image of the inside of the target region and in a digital representation of the external surface of the target region acquired by optically scanning the external surface; and at a later time registering the diagnostic image of the inside of the target region, transitioned into the second position, with a diagnostic image of the same target region acquired with the target region in the second position by matching a second representation of the external surface of the target region in the second position without markers with the diagnostic image of the inside of the target region transitioned into the second position.

In one aspect, in accordance with one embodiment, a method for magnetic resonance based thermometry includes: acquiring, by a variable flip-angle T1 mapping sequence, MR data in an area of interest of a subject that is heated by the application of focused ultrasound (FUS) to the brain of the subject, where the MR data includes T1 values over time, and where the acquisition of the MR data includes applying an accelerated three-dimensional ultra-short spiral acquisition sequence with a nonselective excitation pulse; and determining, based at least in part on a mathematical relationship established by T1 mapping thermometry, a temperature change in the area of interest over time, and where the temperature change is caused at least in part by a change in the applied FUS.
MOTION TRACKING DURING NON-INVASIVE THERAPY
During a focused-ultrasound or other non-invasive treatment procedure, the motion of the treatment target or other object(s) of interest can be tracked in real time based on (i) the comparison of treatment images against a reference library of images that have been acquired prior to treatment for the anticipated range of motion and have been processed to identify the location of the target or other object(s) therein and (ii) complementary information associated with the stage of the target motion during treatment.
Hybrid ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging device
In order to position and simultaneously operate both a magnetic resonance (MR) coil and an ultrasound transducer adjacent to a target volume while minimizing interference between the MR coil and the ultrasound transducer, hybrid ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) devices are provided. One of the hybrid ultrasound and MRI devices includes a transducer array, a communications interface connected with the transducer array, and a housing that electromagnetically shields and encloses the transducer array and the communications interface. An electrically conducting side of the housing receives a radio frequency (RF) signal from an MRI system and transmits the RF signal to an electrically conducting side of a housing of another of the hybrid ultrasound and MRI devices.
DISPLACEMENT MEASUREMENT METHOD AND APPARATUS, AND ULTRASONIC DIAGNOSTIC APPARATUS
A displacement measurement apparatus includes an ultrasound sensor transmitting ultrasounds to an object in accordance with a drive signal, and detecting ultrasound echo signals generated in the object to output echo signals; a driving and processing unit supplying the drive signal to the sensor, and processing the echo signals from the sensor to obtain ultrasound echo data; and a controller controlling the driving and processing unit to yield an ultrasound echo data frame at each of plural different temporal phases based on the ultrasound echo data obtained by scanning the object. The ultrasound echo data has one of local single octant spectra, local single quadrant spectra, and local single half-band-sided spectra in a frequency domain. The ultrasound echo data is obtained from plural same bandwidth spectra. A data processing unit calculates a displacement at each local position or distribution thereof in at least one of axial, lateral, and elevational directions by solving simultaneous equations derived at each local position via implementing a predetermined displacement measurement method on the ultrasound echo data yielded at the plural different temporal phases with respect to at least one of the axial, lateral, and elevational carrier frequencies and the phase, or the one of the local single octant spectra, the local single quadrant spectra, and the local single half-band-sided spectra.
