Flow restrictors for use with a syringe or without a syringe are disclosed for dispensing a liquid medicine for an infant or child. The flow restrictors include a cover having a raised ring, a sleeve for insertion into a bottle, a self-sealing orifice for dispensing the medicine and including an annular cylinder having vertical supports or ribs which extend outward and engage the inside wall of the sleeve. The sleeve includes one or more external protrusions.

CONTAINER AND CLOSURE
20170258683 · 2017-09-14 ·

A closure for dispensing one or more active agents into a container comprises a sealed or sealable chamber having a breakable wall and a hollow piston slidably mounted in a piston guide. Said hollow piston comprises an outer wall having an end in the chamber and at least one ventilation aperture. Said end has a cutting formation. Said hollow piston is slidable in the piston guide between a ventilation position in which the at least one ventilation aperture allows ventilation of the chamber and a sealed position in which the at least one ventilation aperture is sealed to prevent ventilation of the chamber and a deployed position in which the cutting formation has broken through at least a portion of the breakable wall. The outer wall has a retaining formation which engages with the piston guide to releasably resist sliding of the hollow piston between the ventilation position and the sealed position and the deployed position. The hollow piston may have an outer wall, and said outer wall has an end within the chamber, facing the breakable wall, wherein the cutting end has a first edge having a cutting formation and a gap in said cutting formation.

IMPROVED NEEDLE VALVE AND CONNECTORS FOR USE IN LIQUID TRANSFER APPARATUSES
20170258682 · 2017-09-14 · ·

The invention is a needle valve comprising at least one hollow needle and a seat. The hollow needle is comprised of a smooth surfaced hollow shaft and a port adapted to allow fluid communication between the interior and the exterior of said needle located in the side of the shaft at the distal end close to the tip of said needle. The seat comprises at least one bore adapted to accommodate one of the at least one needles through it. The needle and the bore can move one relatively to the other and the bore is provided in, or is fitted with, resilient material such that the outer diameter of the needle is greater than the inner diameter of at least part of the bore. As a result the passage of the shaft of the needle in the bore creates a closely-matched shaft and sheath, which blocks the passage of fluid through the port.

VIAL ADAPTER

An exemplary vial adapter may include a moveable member, an elongated member with a first passage, a second passage coupled to an expandable first reservoir, and a third passage coupled to an expandable second reservoir. In a first orientation of an exemplary vial adapter, a fluid may be directed through the first passage into the first reservoir or the second reservoir. In a second orientation of an exemplary vial adapter, a fluid may be drawn through the first passage and a fluid drawn through an air passage into the second passage. In a second orientation of an exemplary vial adapter, a fluid may be directed through the first passage and through the third passage into the second reservoir. In a first orientation of an exemplary vial adapter, a moveable member may be activated to direct a fluid from the second reservoir through the third passage.

ROTARY VALVE PUMP FOR AUTOMATIC DRUG COMPOUNDER
20220040044 · 2022-02-10 ·

Various aspects of the subject disclosure relate to a compounder system having a cartridge that includes controllable fluid pathways. One or more rotary piston pump/valves may be used to move fluid and/or gasses through the various fluid pathways of the cartridge. For example, the cartridge may include a dedicated rotary piston pump/valve for each process that moves fluid and/or gas through the cartridge. When turning, the rotary piston pump/valve acts as a pump to move the fluid or gas, and when the rotary piston pump/valve stops turning, it effectively acts as a shutoff valve, preventing any fluid flow. Magnetic couplers for the cartridge may be provided on a pump head of the compounder system.

Medication access device for prevention of medication reservoir contamination

A safety-engineered, one-time use, syringe adaptor-connector system restricts access to medical vials and intravenous bags (e.g., common reservoirs) using a valve and providing a barrier to inserting a needle in the reservoir.

LIQUID TRANSFER DEVICES FOR USE WITH INTRAVENOUS (IV) BOTTLES
20220040042 · 2022-02-10 ·

A liquid transfer device is provided having a trifurcated body that includes a vial adapter at a first end configured to telescopically mount on the crown of an IV bottle to puncture a stopper in the crown with a cannula, an IV port extending from an opposing second end of the trifurcated body, and a needleless self-sealing port extending from a third end of the trifurcated body and configured to couple with the male connector of an additive transfer device. Methods of using the liquid transfer device with an IV bottle, additive transfer device, and an infusion set to prepare an infusion liquid for administration to a patient are also provided.
