Location determination using crowd sourced information
A method of determining locations of access points in a venue, one or more electronic devices configured to receive radio signals from the access points, the method comprises: generating and storing, at a server in communication with the one or more electronic devices, a database comprising information received from the one or more electronic devices, the information comprising: values associated with a radio signal characteristic of the radio signals at locations of RF scan capture by the one or more electronic devices and access point identifiers representing access points corresponding to the values, the locations of RF scan capture being unknown at a time of RF scan capture; assigning correlation values to quantify similarity between the values for pairs of the access point identifiers; mapping the correlation values to correlation ranges based on known locations of at least two of the access points; determining the locations of the access points based on the correlation ranges and the known locations.
POSITIONING PERFORMANCE
An apparatus obtains test data, which comprises radio samples with associated indications of reference locations. The apparatus estimates for each of a plurality of representations of a radio environment positions based on the radio samples of the test data and on the respective representation. Each representation has been generated based on a different selection of batches of fmgerprints. Each fmgerprint comprises a radio sample and an indication of a location of measurement. Each radio sample includes a characteristic of a radio signal transmitted by at least one beacon and an identification of the respective beacon. The apparatus determines for each representation a positioning performance by comparing the estimated positions with the reference locations. Based on the determined positioning performances, the apparatus determines whether any batch of fmgerprints is to be excluded from further use and/or which representation is to be used as a valid representation of the radio environment.
Localization using millimeter wave beam attributes for keyless entry applications
A system for keyless entry applications using beamforming transmission in a millimeter wave spectrum in an environment. A memory with data including values indicative of link attributes associated with beam signal measurements with states of devices and states of environments. The states of the devices for each device including types of user behavior, locations and poses in each environment. Control circuitry performs beam training with a target device associated with at least one keyless entry application in the environment to measure beam signal values and environmental responses for different beams transmitted over the different beam angles. Selects, in response to the beam training, at least one dominant angle for a beamforming communication with the target device. Estimates, a state of the target device associated with the at least one keyless entry application or a state of the environment, corresponding to environmental responses for different beams estimated during the beam training.
SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR POSITION DETERMINATION IN A BUILDING
A system for determining a position of a user in a building includes a control device, a plurality of stationary radio signal transmission devices, a radio signal receiving device, and a signal processing device. The signal processing device determines primary channel impulse responses based on the radio signals received by the receiving device. The signal processing device also determines a secondary channel impulse response based on a secondary radio signal received by the receiving device from a mobile device of a user. The channel impulse responses are evaluated to determine degrees of similarity that indicate how similar a first primary channel impulse response and the secondary channel impulse response are to one another. For each degree of similarity, a distance of the mobile device from the transmission device corresponding to the degree of similarity is determined. A position of the mobile device is determined based on the distances.
Radiator localization
A method of locating a radiator is provided. A channel measurement vector is defined that includes a signal value measured at each of a plurality of antennas in response to a signal transmitted from a radiator. (a) A cell covariance matrix of a first cell from a plurality of cells defined for a region in which the radiator is located is selected. (b) A likelihood value that the radiator is located in the first cell is calculated using the selected cell covariance matrix and the defined channel measurement vector. (a) and (b) are repeated with each cell of the plurality of cells as the first cell. A cell location of the radiator is selected based on the calculated likelihood value for each cell of the plurality of cells.
Ranging Method
A method of ranging between a first and a second radio signal transceiver comprises calculating a preliminary estimate of a value proportional to a one-way frequency domain channel response, for a frequency of a plurality of frequencies and for each of a first antenna combination and a second antenna combination of a plurality of antenna combinations; calculating a comparison value for the preliminary estimate, for the frequency and for each of the first antenna combination and the second antenna combination; determining, for the frequency and the first antenna combination, a corrected estimate of the value proportional to the one-way frequency domain channel response based on the preliminary estimate and the comparison value, for the first antenna combination and the second antenna combination; and performing a ranging calculation between the first and the second radio signal transceiver based on a plurality of such corrected estimates.
METHOD FOR PROVIDING LOCATION INFORMATION AND APPARATUS THEREFOR
A server may include a communication circuit communicating with a user terminal, storage including a fingerprint DB storing fingerprints corresponding to a plurality of points and a signal fluctuation probability DB, and a processor electrically connected to the communication circuit and the storage. The processor may be configured to store similarity between first signal strength and second signal strength, which are determined based on a probability that a pair of the first signal strength and the second signal strength received from a first AP occurs with respect to fingerprints corresponding to a first point, in the signal fluctuation probability DB, to obtain a fingerprint including signal strength received from the first AP, from the user terminal, and to determine a location of the user terminal based on the obtained fingerprint and the signal fluctuation probability DB.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR GUIDING PROBE DATA COLLECTION
A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to guide the collection of probe data, such as within an indoor or other setting in which the probe data that is otherwise collected will have a location associated therewith with an undesirably high level of uncertainty and/or an undesirably low level of accuracy. In the context of a method, the location of a user device is determined in conjunction with the collection of probe data and a corresponding uncertainty or accuracy is also determined in association with the determined location. Based upon a relationship of the uncertainty or accuracy associated with the determined location and a predefined threshold, the method causes the user device to provide first user guidance towards a first region having less uncertainty, or more accuracy, than the uncertainty, or accuracy, associated with the determined location.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR IDENTIFYING THE FLOOR OF A BUILDING
A method, apparatus and computer program product are provided to identify the floor of a building. In the context of a method, an image captured by a mobile device is received. The image includes a representation of a floor plan of the floor of the building. The method also includes comparing, with processing circuitry, the representation of the floor plan from the image to one or more predefined indoor maps of respective floors. Based upon the comparing, the method further includes identifying, with the processing circuitry, the floor depicted by the floor plan from the image captured by the mobile device.
USING WIRELESS NETWORKS FOR LOCATIONING AND DATA TRANSFER
In some implementations, a locating agent may identify, at the locating agent, one or more identifiable access points, each identifiable access point establishing a wireless network and being identifiable to the locating agent via a signal broadcast from the identifiable access point. The locating agent may compare the identified one or more identifiable access points to an access-point database defining known access points to the wireless tracking system. The locating agent may connect to one of the identifiable access points based on the comparing. The locating agent may transmit one or more of sensed and monitoring data captured at the locating agent to an external device via the connected access point.
